HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 4577 Amends ORD 3719, 4464 Amended by ORD 4990 CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON ORDINANCE NO. 4577 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, AMENDING SECTIONS 4-20-2 AND 4-20-12, AND ADDING SECTION 4-20- 12 .C.9 TO CHAPTER 20, SIGN CODE, OF TITLE IV (BUILDING REGULATIONS) , OF ORDINANCE NO. 4260 ENTITLED "CODE OF GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON" BY ADDING "SHOPPING CENTER" TO THE LIST OF DEFINITIONS AND DEFINING THE DIMENSIONS OF OUTDOOR SIGNS FOR LARGE RETAIL USES. - THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS : SECTION I . Section 4-20-2 of Chapter 20, Sign Code, of Title IV (Building Regulations) , of Ordinance No. 4260 entitled "Code of General Ordinances of the City of Renton, Washington" is hereby amended by adding the following definition: SHOPPING CENTER: A group of buildings, structures and/or uncovered commercial areas, or a single building containing four or more individual commercial establishments, planned, developed and managed as a unit related in location and type of shops to the trade areas that the unit serves . SECTION II . Sections 4-20-12 and 4-20-12 .C. 8 of Chapter 20, Sign Code, of Title IV (Building Regulations) , of Ordinance No. 4260 entitled "Code of General Ordinances of the City of Renton, Washington" are hereby amended to read as follows : 4-20-12 : SIZE, NUMBER AND HEIGHT OF SIGNS . 1 ORDINANCE NO. 4577 4-20-12 .C. 8 : Oversized Signs for Large Retail Uses : Property dedicated primarily to retail sales may install oversized signs as follows in lieu of signage permitted under sections 4-20-12 .C.2 and 4-20-12 .C. 9 . a. A commercial development with a single building of a minimum of one hundred twenty five thousand (125, 000) square feet in floor area dedicated primarily to retail sales, provided all or part li of the property is located within one thousand (1, 000) feet of the right-of-way of Interstate Highway 405 or Highway 167 may install : (1) One. (1) freestanding sign per street frontage not to j exceed an area .greater than one and one-half (1-1/2) square feet for each linear foot of property frontage, up to a maximum of one hundred fifty (150) square feet per sign face and a maximum of three hundred (300) square feet including all sign faces, and; (2) In lieu of one of the freestanding signs permitted above, for a property frontage with a minimum of two hundred (200) linear feet; one (1) freestanding sign not to exceed two hundred , fifty (250) square feet per sign face and a maximum of five hundred (500) square feet including all sign faces, and not to exceed sixty feet (60' ) in height, and; (3) An additional directional sign may be permitted to locate within twenty (20) feet of a recorded access easement serving the subject property, provided the sign does not obscure sight 2 ORDINANCE NO. 4577 distance . This sign shall not exceed thirty two (32) square feet per sign face and a maximum of sixty four (64) square feet including all sign faces . b. Properties with over four hundred fifty thousand (450, 000) square feet in developable property potentially dedicated to retail ' sales may install : (1) One on-premises freestanding sign not to exceed sixty feet (60 ' ) in height and seven hundred (700) square feet per face, and another such sign not to exceed forty feet (40 ' ) in height and four hundred (400) square feet per face, and; (2) One roof-mounted sign per building of up to four hundred (400) square feet not to exceed twenty feet (20 ' ) in height above the parapet wall and not to exceed two (2) such signs per retail center, and; (3) Two (2) on-premises freestanding signs per street frontage, no more than eight feet (8 ' ) tall and no more than one hundred (100) square feet per side . SECTION III . Section 4-20-12 .0 of Chapter 20, Sign Code, of Title IV (Building Regulations) , of Ordinance No. 4260 entitled "Code of General Ordinances of the City of Renton, Washington" is hereby amended by adding subsection 9 which reads as follows : 4-20-12-C.9 : Shopping Centers . 3 ORDINANCE NO. 4577 a. Shopping centers less than ten (10) acres may install : (1) One (1) freestanding sign for each street frontage of the shopping center. Each sign shall not exceed an area greater than one and one-half (1-.1/2) ) square foot for each lineal foot of property� frontage, not to exceed one hundred fifty (150) square feet per sign fa.ce and a maximum of three hundred (300) square feet including all sign faces . b. Shopping centers ten (10) acres or greater may install : (1) One (1) freestanding sign per street frontage not to exceed an area greater than one and one-half (1-1/2) square feet for each linear foot of property frontage, up to a maximum of one hundred fifty (150) square feet per sign face and a maximum of three hundred (300) square feet including all sign faces, and; (2) In lieu of one of the freestanding signs permitted above; one (1) freestanding identification sign for listing the names of the occupants of the shopping center. The shopping center identification sign shall not exceed an area greater than one and i one-half (1-1/2) square feet for each linear foot of property frontage, not to exceed two hundred fifty (250) square feet per sign face and a maximum of five hundred (500) square feet including all sign faces . SECTION IV. OF ORDINANCE N0. 4260 ENTITLED "CODE OF GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON" BY ADDING "SHOPPING CENTER" TO THE LIST OF DEFINITIONS AND DEFINING THE DIMENSIONS OF OUTDOOR SIGNS FOR LARGE RETAIL USES. SECTION I. Section I adds shopping center to the list of definitions concerning outdoor signs . Section II defines the � size, number and height of outdoor signs for large retail uses . Section III adds a subsection to the Code to include shopping centers and defines the size of outdoor signs that may be installed for shopping centers . I SECTION II .
