HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 4445 ' Repeals ORD's 1976, 2942, 3008, 3471 Amends ORD's 1927, 2845, 3875 A �)_ Amended by ORD ��4784, 5079 CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON ORDINANCE NO. 4445 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, AMENDING SECTIONS 3-4-1.A, 3-4-3, 3-4-4, 3-4-7, 3-4-8, 3-4-9 AND . 3-4-10 OF CFIAPTER 4, MUNICIPAL COURT, OF TITLE III (DEPARTMENTS) , OF ORDINANCE N0. 4260 ENTITLED "CODE OF GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON" RELATING TO THE MUNICIPAL COURT. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: I� SECTION I. Section 3-4-1 .A of Chapter 4, Municipal Court, of Title III (Departments) , of Ordinance No. 4260 entitled "Code of General Ordinances of the City of Renton, Washington" is hereby amended to read as follows : 3-4-1.A: COURT CREATED: There is hereby created and established an inferior court to be known and designated as a ' municipal co.urt entitled The Municipal Court of the City of Renton, � , whi.ch court .shall have exclusive original criminal jurisdiction . of all violations of City laws and shall have original jurisdiction of all other actions brought to enforce or recover license penalties or forfeitures declared or given by such City laws or by any state � statutes . The Municipal Court shall further have jurisdiction and shall exercise all powers granted by chapter 6 of said Justice '� Court and other Inferior Court Reorganization Law (chapter 299, laws of 1961 ) , together with such other powers and jurisdictions as are generally conferred in this state by either common law or by express statute upon said Municipal Court. The Judge of the Municipal Court shall be appointed by the Mayor of the City, with the confirmation or concurrence of a majority of the members of the City Council, and such appointment to be for a term of four (4) years, commencing January 15, 1962 . Succeeding appointments shall 1 � ORDINANCE NO. 4445 be made in like manner by the fifteenth day of December preceding the end of every such four (4) year term. The person appointed as I , Municipal Judge shall be a citizen of the United States and of the '� state of Washington and an attorney duly admitted to practice law before the courts of record of the state. Additional part-time judges may be appointed by the Mayor, subject to the confirmation or concurrence of a majority of the members of the City Council, in the same manner as hereinbefore set forth, whenever public interest and the administration of justice require the appointment of such additional judges . ' SECTION II. Section 3-4-3 of Chapter 4, Municipal Court, of Title III (Departments) , of Ordinance No. 4260 entitled "Code of General Or.dinances of the City of Renton, Washington" is hereby amended to. read :as follows : 3-4=3: JUDGES PRO TEM: The Mayor shall, subject �to confirmation by a majority of the members of the City Council, appoint Judges Pro Tem who shall act in the absence, disability or temporary disqualification of the regular Municipal Court Judge, or because of the number of types of cases there is a requirement, on any particular day, for more than one judge. The Judges Pro Tem ' shall be qualified to hold the position of Judge of the Municipal Court as provided for in Section 3-4-1 hereinabove. � Such Pro Tem Judges shall receive the sum of thirty dollars I ( $30.. 00) per hour for handling the calendar on any regular or special court day. Such compensation shall be adjusted periodically as necessary so that the Municipal Court Pro Tem Judges will receive the same compensation as District Court Pro Tem Judges . 2 ORDINANCE NO. 4445 ' SECTION III. Section 3-4-4 of Chapter 4, Municipal Court, of Title III (Departments) , of Ordinance No. 4260 entitled "Code of GeneraT Ordinances of the City of Renton, Washington" is hereby amended to read as follows : 3-4-4: DEPOSIT OF REVENUES: All fees, costs, fines, ' forfeitures and other monies imposed or collected by any Municipal Court for the violation of any Municipal Law, together with any . other revenues received by the Municipal Court, shall be deposited with the Finance & Information Services Administrator as part of the General Fund. SECTION IV. Sections 3-417, 3-4-8, 3-4-9 and 3-4-10 of Chapter 4, Municipal Court, of Title III (Departments) , of Ordinance .No. 4260 entitled "Code of General Ordinances of the City of Renton, Washington" are hereby elimina.ted in their entirety. SECTION V: This Ordinance shall be effective upon its passage, approval, and thirty days after publication.
