AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, AMENDING
SECTION 7-1-4.L OF CHAPTER 1, UNIFORM FIRE CODE, OF TITLE
VII (FIRE REGULATIONS) OF ORDINANCE NO. 4260 ENTITLED
"CODE OF GENE E CITY OF RENTON"

RELATING TO OUTDOOR FIRES, LICENSING, AND REGULATIONS.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN
I AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I. Section 7-1-4 .L of Chapter 1, Uniform Fire Code,
of Title VII (Fire Regulations) , of Ordinance No. 4620 entitled
' "Code of General Ordinances of the City of Renton" is hereby amended
to read as follows :
Section 7-1-4.L: Article 11, section 11 . 101, of the Uniform
Fire Code, 1988 Edition, entitled "Bonfires and Outdoor Rubbish
Fires" is hereby amended to read as follows : '�i
Outdoor Fires; Licensing; Regulations.
1 . Permits are required for the following types of outdoor
burning: ,
a. Residential yard clean-up. Limited to single-family
residence: burning of natural vegetation such as leaves, clippings,
and untreated wood located on a residential lot.
b. Small outdoor fires for pleasure, religious,
ceremonial, cooking, or like social purposes, except, however, self-
contained enclosed outdoor cooking appliances, to include propane,
charcoal briquettes or other solid fuel burning devices are not
required to have a permit.
c. Fire for instruction in method of firefighting,
testing fire resistant materials, or testing of fire protection
equipment. 1

d. Fires for coritrol of disease.
2 . Al1 fires listed under subsection (1 ) shall require a
prior written permit issued by the Fire Chief or his duly authorized
agent. Outdoor fire permits shall not be issued for any of the
following:
a. Land clearing of proposed construction site or vacant
lot without a residential structure on the property.
b. Burning of materials in relation to construction or
demolition.
c. Combustible waste material or material containing or
coated with petroleum by-products or asphalt shingles or tires .
SECTION II. This Ordinance shall be effective upon its
passage, approval, and thirty days after publication. .
