' ORDINANCfis N0. ,�0� AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF REN�ON, WASHINGTON, ADOPTING AND ESTABLISHING BY REFERENCE A "NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE, 1965 EDITION", ADOPTING ADDITIONS AND AMENDMENTS THEREZb, AND PROVIDING FOR FEES WHEREAS not less than three printed copies in book f�rm of the "National Electrical Code, 1965 Edition" as issued by the Netional Fire Protection Association, have heretofore been filed in the office of the City Clerk of the City of Renton for use and ex�mination by the public� ::and it �g dee�d 8dvisgD2�/$dopt aeid GODE by reference as provided by law, tog�ther with any amendments, additions or modifications thereto, when printed aad filed with the City Clerk from tune to time; NOW THERFFORF BE I! ORDAINF�D B3f THE MAYOR.AND TftE CITY OOUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REN3t�N AS : FOLLOWS: SFsCTION I: That aaid "Plational Electrical Code, 1965 &lition" issued by the National Fire Protection Association, of which not less th�n three printed copies in book form have heretofore been f iled ia the off ice o£ the City Clerk and made availa ble for exaffiination by the public, is hereby adopted as the "NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE�. 1985 EDITION" �or the City of Renton, which OODB may be hereafter designated as "CITY OF , RENTON BLECTRICAL QODE, 1965"; and any and aIl amendments, additions or modifications thereto when printed and filed with the City Clerk ot the City of Renton by authorization of the City Council from ti,me to tic¢e shall be considered and accepted and constitute a part of such CODE without the necessity of further adoption Qf such amendments, modifi- cations or additions by the legislative authority of the City of Renton or by Ordinance. SECTION II: By the reference thereto made hereinabove� said "NATIONAL ELECTRICAL ' CODE, 1965 EDITION"� together with any and all amendments� modifications or additions '' thereto hereaf ter printed and f iled with the City Clerk as hereinabove specif ied, are incorporated in and made a gast of this Ordinance as fully and with the same effect as if set out herein in full, or as if adopted by subsequent Ordinances amendatory hereof. SECTION IIT: This Ordin�nce shall not be construed to relieve from or lessen the responsibility of any person owning, huilding, alteriag, cons�ructing or moving any building or structure as d¢fined in ttte aforesaid CODE:" nor st�ll the City of Renton or aay of its agents thereof be held as assuming such liability by reason of inspection authorized herein or a Certificate o.f Occupancy issued by the Ci�y or any of its agents. SECTION IV: ADDITIONS AND AMENDMENTS. The following are additions and amendments to the"National Electrical Code, 1965 £dition": Definitions. Wards and phrases� used here.in. shal2 have the following m�anings: a. Assemb2y Occupancy: mean� the occupancy use of a building, or " t i + , � ♦ structure os any portion thereof by 'a gattte€ing of persans for eivic, political� travel, religious, social or recreational ;purposes; including among others, armories, theatres, motion p.ictures, assembly halls. dance ha11s, museums, bowYing alleys, ' �xhibition, �night clubs, chapel rooms,' pool rooc�s; churches� gymnasiums, restaurants, club rooms, lodge rooms, skating rinks. _. b. Educational Occupancy: means the occupancy or use of a build ing or structure or any portion thereof by persons assembled`fflr the purpose of learning or of receiving educational instruc�i�n in- cluding among others, acade�mies, libraries, colleges� schools, universities. c. Znstitutional Occupancy: means the occupancy use of a building or structure or any portion' thereof by persons harb�red or de- ta ined to receive medical, :charitable or other care or treatment� or by persons involuntarily detained: including among others, asylums, nurseries, hospitals, nursi.ng homes, inf-irmaries, fl,�phanages, reformatories, sanatoriums� penal insfitutions. d. Commercia2 Occupancy: means the occupancy or use of a buildi.ng or structure or any portion thereof for the displ�ying� selling, or buying of goods, wares, merchandise or far the transaction . of business or rendering as receiving of profession;al services; except when classed as a hazardous occupancy: including am�ng , others, department stores, barber shops, markets, 'tian�Cs, mo�or ,vehicles, service garage, stores, supermarkets. heauty parlors. e. ; .I ndustrial Occupancy: means the occupancy or use of a build ing or structure or any portion thereof for assembl�ing, fabricatitEg� finishing, manufactnring, packaging or processing operations. Except when classed as a hazardous occupaney: includi��g among others creameries� manufacturing, factories, plei►ts, ice plants, smoke houses, repair garages,. power plants, laundries, processing p.lants, pumping stations and work shops. f. Publ.ic, private and other premises such as all assembZy, �ducatioc�al, institutional, commercisl and industrial bvildir�gs sh�ll be wired� in Rigid Pipe, EMT, F.lex Underfloor Receway and Surface Metal Raceway. All buildings in Fire Zone I shall be wired ia �igia pipe� F,MT, Flex-underfloor raceway. All apactments over one story shall be wired with rigid pipe or EMT or Flex. Sit�gle fs�mi3y residence may be wired with concealed non-trtetalic sheathed cable. " ��: ARTICL� 34� - EI.I�C1'RICAL MErTALLIC xLJBING: Subsection 348-i: Installation of electrical metallic tubing shall comply with the provi�ions of Section 3001 to 302A, incl�sive, ared in addition shall comply wath the provisions o£ Section 348..2 to 349.1. xe: AR'�ICLE 350 - FLFsXIBLE METAL CONDt3IT: � Se�baection 35�-1: Installation o£ flexible metal cond�it shall comply with the provisions of Section 300.1 to 302A inelusive, Section 334.3. 334.4 � and 334.8, and of Sections 346.S and 346.8 i°nclusive, and in ad�ition st;all comply with the provisions of Sectibns � 3SD,2, 350.3 and 350.4. Re: ARTICLE 352 - SURgACE METAL RACEWAYS: Subsection 352.1: Installatian of surfaee meta�� raceways s6aI2 comply with the prflvisions of Section 300.1 to 302.0 itrc�u'sive, an� ia addition shall comply with the provisions of Sectio�es 352.2 to 3g2�.$, inclusive. S_�CTION Y: There are hereby es�ablished the following permit fees under the -2- -- :i "National Electrical Code,. 1965 Editior►", to�-�wit: . � (A) Electrical Pe:mit Feea: I. The minimum fee for any electriaal permit shall be two siollars ($2v00) wtien cost of £tem or equipment is fifty dollars ($SO.Od} or less. 2. Where cost is over fifty dolZars {$50.00) but less than two hundred and f ifty dollars ($250.00), the fee st�ll be ten dollars ($10.00). 3. Where cost is over .two hurulred and fifty dollars ($250.d0) bat less than one thousand dollars ($1,000.00)� the fee shell be five dol2ers C$5.00) plus two per cent (2%) of the electrical hid or cost. 4. Where cost exeeeds one thousand dollars ($1,000.00). but not over five t&ousand dollars ($5,000.00), the fee shall be f if teen dollara ($15.00) plus one per cent C1%? of the e2ectrical bid or cost. 5.. Where eost exceeds five thousaad dollars ($5,000.00), the fee shall be forty dollars ($40.00) plus one-half af one per cent (Z of 19b) of the electrica3 bid or coat. (B) Tfine and Material Jo�s: When the cost of a job is not known at the time plans and/'or specif ic�tions are submitted for checking, at least ten dollars ($10.00) of the permit fee sha33 be pai,�. Balaa�ce of the perarit fee shall be due when the work is completed and the cost of t� job h�s been ascertay.ned. Whe� the duration of the electrical work ia utore ttean one (1) year ths permit fee sha11 be paid on that portion of the work which has been campleted each year. � � . (C) T�Smporary Wiring: �'ha perfnit fee for a temporary elactrical i.nsta2lation, which is oen2 th�t is to remain in place for a perial naEt exceeding thirty {30) days, ahall be one-half (�) the amount fixed by the E2ectrical Fermit Fee, fqr an instal2ation which fs not herein classed as temporary, except ihat in no case shall such fee be less than the minimum eatablished by thi� Chapter. (D) Lighting Fixtures end Receptacles: To install fixtures, sockets or receptaeles except thase for equipment specified, the permit fee per sacket or recept- acles shall be ten cents (10¢) e�ch. . (E) Ampersss Wh�re a service is provided ta a aervice switch or g�nelboard, or e�hare feeders only are inQtal.led, the fee shall be based upan their cnrrent carrying capacitiea as pr$scribed in the "It�nton Electrical Code" for their respective insula- tions in acc�rda►zce with the f ol lawing achedule: Not exceeding 100 Amperes . . . . . . . . . . . . $2.QQ Not exceedsng 200 Amperes . . . . . . . . , . . . $3.U0 Not e�ce�ctfRg 400 Amperes . . . . . . . . . . . . $4.00 .
