ENTITLED "CODE OF GEI�IERl�L ORDINANCES 0� THE CITY

WFiEREAS there ha� been a significan-� and unusual rise in the �

a�fe�ted the �eople who are retired, disabled and others similarly �
situa-ted who live on fixed incames below thase certain levels as �
hereina�t�r set for�h, and '
G�HEREAS -�he Federal Governmerit I�as heretofore de�:ermined
and ��stablished certa�r� levels of income to be the minimum necessary and
required for. tne mere subsistance of any such r•-er�cn or persons , and
WI-iEREAS the City of Renton is desirous to a�sist such ,
eli�;ib�e persons subject ta certazn conditions , by reduction in �he I
rates c?-�a.rgecl -car water and sewer ses�vlce , and
WH�'REAS such reduc-�ion to -the persons eligible therefor is
in t'rie public interest and will as�i�t in e]_imina�ing paver-ty a.nd I
�nade��uate 1.iving conditians, NOG� THEREFORE �
BE IT OR.DA�.�1ED BY THE MAYOR AND THE C�TY COUNCIL OP THE I�
CITY OF RENTON, WASHTNGTQN, AS FOLLOWS :
I SECTION I : The abov� recitals and �ind:i.n�s are hereby
ioun�:_i ta be true and carrect in all r. espects. �
SECTION II : Every single. person, 65 years of age or I
old�_r ��nd every s�ng1� �erson to�a�_ly and perrnanently d�..sabled, residing
in a single family dwelling, either �s owner or purch�.s�r, whose income �

or l..ss ; o� in case o� a marital co�:munity bo�� �ar-�ics , husband and I

so���rces is $350. 00 per mon�h or less, and $4, 200 . 00 per annum or less ,
sha11 pay the following ra-tes for water and sewer services relating to
such single family dwellin� in whzch such eligible person or persons
per:�anently re s ide , to--wit:

month; any excess shall be charged asprovided
in Section 3-231 of Title III relating to water - '

SECTIOI�1 III : Every such person (if married, then either '
spouse) shall file with the Utilities Department of the City of Renton, I,
his or her statement , under oath, that he, she or they are qualified to �
be charged the specia� rate for such utility services as hereinabove set
forth and such statement to contain such other information as the
dir�ctor oi Utilities may prescribe, including residence address , ownership I
or interest in dwelling occu�ied by such applicant or applicants, the
a-nc-�int, source and nature of all income from any and all sources, together
��i-l. � the applicant ° s unqualified promise to forthwith notify the City
of ,�ny c�rcumstances or change in condition which would make the applicant
or `p�,licanLs ineligible tr receive said special rates . -
SECTICi�i .IV: tiny person violating any provision of this
Ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof
shall be fined in any sum not exceeding $100 . 00 .
. SECTION V'� Section 3-321, as amended,. of Title III , relating
� to U�ater rates and See ��ion 8-715 , as amended, relating to sewer rates of
Title VIII of Ordinance No. 1628 entitled "Code of General Ordinances
of the City of Renton" are hereby amended accordingly. I
SECTION Vl : This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect
iro�n and after its passage , approval and legal publications and Ordinance No.
,�.�g.j be and the �:.� i� hereby repealed.
