Every officer or esnployee of the City af Rentan now or hereafter emplayed, except full time members of the Renton Fire Department' working a shift dif�'erent from an ardinary daily eight t8) hour work shift far which separate pravi�ie�s are made hereinbelow, shall, upon satisfactt�ry com�letion of the first six C6) months proba�ionary period, receive and be entitl�d to the follawing vacation credits , to-wit : Ler�h of Service HOurlDayl��Ic�ra�h Accrual DayslYear 0 through 5 years , completpd I day 12 days 6 through l0years , completed 1 1/2 days 18 days 11 ttae�ugh 15 years ,campleted 1 3/4 days 21 day: I6 and subsequent years , completed 2 days 24 days � which above schedule . shall commenee to aecrue, as to each auch employee� except members af tYre Police Department, with I 5uch employee� appli�able anniversary date during r�lendar . year 19?2, As �a m�mDers af the Po3ice Department , the � cammencement of the afarem�ntioned benefits shall become effective an and after January l, 1972 . Working Shifts/ Length of Service Hours/Month Accrual Year 0 through 5 years 12 6 working shift� 6 through 10 years 18 9 working shifts 11 through 15 years 22 `J� working sh�:�ts 16 and subsequent years 26 13 working shifts � The purpose of the aforedescribed schedules is to provide, . nearly as /equally as possible, the same, comparable vacatior benefits to all City employees , based on their total length of service for the City. The above schedule, shall commence to accrue, as to each such employee within the � Fire - ' Depax�fim�nt, with such employee's applicable anniversary date during calendar � year 1972 and such vacation benefits to be drawn by such employee commencing with the applicable anniversary date � in calendar year 1973 and thereafter. 3. Whenever any officer or employee shall not take a vacation to which he is entitled in any one calendar year, • as above specified, by reason of the urgent need of his continuous service or because �f seasonal demand therefor, such officer or employee, with the approval of the head of his department or di.vision, �nay be allowed such vacation 'i during the succeecl�ng calendar year, but in no event shall any vacation not taken the year when due be accumulated i Ueyond the ne�t s�ccEeding calendar year. Officers and employees as hereinabove defined, who are laid aff, retired or who resign af-ter mare than one year' s service, shall be given I proportionate vacatians earned in the current year, to- gather with any unused earned vacatians for the precedi.ng � calendar year before being separated from the payroll, On the death of an emplayee in active service, pay shall be allawed for any vaca�ian earned in the preceding year and in the current year and no� taken prior to �he death of such , employee. 4 . The term "actua.l service" shall be determined, for the purpose of computing vacation benefits , in. the �ame manner : . as such deterrnination is made for salary purposes . In na event shall accumulatian of vacation time exceed �hat I provi.ded by any existirig Ci.�y Ordinance ar as same may be amended �rom time to time., B . The �acation credits hereinabave set forth shall cantinue to accrue during an employee's temporary absence from duty �I by reason of sickness or injury until such time as said i employee is termina�ted or otherwi.se leaves the eznployment with the Ci-�y; provided, however, �hat no accrual of vaca�i.on . credits shall be �pe.rmitted to any em�loyee who has applied ' ar has been gran-�ed retirement far disabil�.ty un,der any exi.sting �� State pension and/or retirement act and who is an disability l�eave far a per�.od of six (6) months or more and i.s receiving � hi� monthly salary during such six (6) manth period; in the , ( '�^ . ... ,- �'- �, � ' ' • s . , ... , .. � r , • . i event, however, that such employee is returned to full active duty status with the City prior to the expiration of such six ( 6) months period and prior to final disability retirement and thereafter continues to perform his regular duties , then vacation credits shall accrue to his benefit , i during such temporary period of disability. SECTION II : Any and all Ordinances or parts of Ordinanees � ; in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. � SECTION III : Thi,s Ordinance shall be effective upon its � passage, approval and five days after its publication, unless otherwise ' provided for hereinabove .
