• AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON ADOPTING
AND ESTABLISHIIVG BY REFERENCE A "NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE ,
1975 EDITION" , ADOPTING ADDITIONS AND AMENDME•NTS THERETO,
AND PROVIDING FOR FEES. AMENDS TITLE IV, CH. 3.
WHEREAS not less than three (3) printed copies in book form of the
"National Electrical Code , 1975 Edition" as issued by the National Fire
Protection Association , have heretofore been filed in the office of the
City Clerk of the City of Renton for use and examination by the public ,
and it. is deemed advisable to adopt said Code by reference as provided
by law, together with any amendments , additions or modifications thereto,
when printed and filed with the City Clerk fromm time to time ;
NOW THEREFORE
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
RENTON AS FOLLOWS :
SECTION I . That said "National Electrical Code , 1975 Edition" I
issued by the National Fire Protection Association , of which not less
than three (3) printed copies in book form have heretofore been-filed I
in the office of the City Clerk and made available for examination by
the public , is hereby adopted as the "National Electrical Code , 1975
Edition" for the City of Renton , which Code may be hereafter designated
as '°City of Renton Electrical Code , 1975" ; and any and all amendments ,
addition or modifications thereto when printed and filed with the City : �
Clerk of the City of Renton by authorization of the City Council from
time to time shall be considered and accepted and constitute a part of
such Code without the ne�essity of futher adoption of such amendments ,
modifications or additions by the legislative authority of the City of
Renton or by ordinance.
SECTION II . By the reference thereto made hereinabove , said
"National Electrical Code , 1975 Edition" , together with any and all
amendments , modifications or additons thereto hereafter printed and
filed with the City Clerk as hereinabove specified , are incorporated in
and made a part of �his Ordinance as fully and with the same effect as
if set out herein in full , or as if adopted by subsequent ordinances
amendatory hereof�
SECTION III . This Ordinance shall not be construed to relieve
from or lessen the responsibility of any person owning , building, alter-

ing, constructing or moving any building or structure as defined in the
aforesaid Code ; nor shall the City of Renton or any of its agents thereof
be held as assuming such liability by reason of inspection authorized I
herein or a Certificate of Occupancy issued by the City or any of its
agents. -
SECTION IV. ADDITIONS AND AMENDMENTS. The Washington State Depart-
ment of Labor and Industries "Rules and Regulations for Installing Electric
Wires and �quipment and Administrative Rules" are hereby adopted by refer-
� ence and as same may be amended from time to time. (Exception: All
occupancies other than residential occupancies shall be wired only with
busways or raceways or cable trays , or types A.L. S . , M. I . or M.C. Cmetal-
clad interlocked armored) cables ; subject to National Electrical Code. )
SECTION V. FEES . The following permit fees are hereby established
and fixed :
A. ELECTRICAL PERMIT FEES.
(1) The minimum fee for any electrical permit shall be $5 . 00
when total cost of work is $50 . 00 or less .
(2 ) When cost is over $50 . 00 but less than $250 . 00 , the fee
shall be $15 . 00 .
(3) Where cost is over $250 . 00 but less than $1 ,000 . 00 , the
fee shall be $10 . 00 plus 20 of cost.
(4) Where cost exceeds $1 ,000 . 00 but not over $5 ,000 . 00 , the
fee shall be $25 . 00 plus lo of cost.
(5) Where cost exceeds $5 ,000 . 00 , the fee shall be $60 . 00
plus 1/2 of 1% of cost.
B. TIME AND MATERIAL JOBS : Whenever the cost of a job is not known
at the time plans and/or specifications are submitted for checking by the
City, a minimum of $20 . 00 of the permit fee shall be applied. The balance
of the permit fee shall be due when the work is completed and the total
cost of the job has been ascertained. Whenever the duration of the
electrical work is more than one (1) year the permit fee shall be paid
on that portion of the work which has been completed in each year.

C. TEMPORARY WIRING : The permit fee for a temporary electrical
installation, which is one that is to remain in place for a period not
exceeding thirty (30 ) days , shall be one-half (lI2) the amount fixed by
the electrical permit fee for an installation which is not herein classed
as temporary, except that in no case shall such fee be less than the
minimum established by this Chapter.
SECTION VI. Chapter 3 , Title IV , Building Regulations of Ordinance
No. 1628 entitled "Code of General Ordinances of the City of Renton"., ,
together with any other ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict
herewith, are hereby repealed. �
SECTION VII . This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect
from and after its passage , approval and five days after legal publica`tion
as provided by law.
