ORDINANCE N0. 2935
AN ORDINANCE OF TIIE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, ESTABLISHING
AND CREATING A "DEPARTMENT OF DATA PROCESSING" TO BE CODIFIED
AS CHAPTER 34 OF TITLE I (ADMINISTRATIVE) OF ORDINANCE N0.
_ , 1628; PROVIDING FOR THE APPOINTMENT OF A DIRECTOR THEREFOR,
SPECIFYING HIS DUTIES, RESPONSIBI�ITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS
AND MATTERS RELATING THERETO; REPEALING ANY AND ALL
ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT THEREWITH

SECTION I: There is hereby created and established a
"DEPARTMENT OF DATA PROCESSING" to be codified as Chapter 34,. Title I,
(ADMINISTRATIVE) of Ordinance No. 1628 entitled "Code of General
Ordinances of the City of Renton".
Said Department shall be under the supervision and direction
of the Data Processing Director and as hereinafter set forth.

SECTION II: The Director of/"Data Processing Department"
shall be responsible for the supervision of said Department and shall
have, among others , the following duties and responsibilities , together
with those assigned to him from time to time by the Mayor and/or City
Council, to-wit :
A. Evaluate and select data processing equipment and
systenis necessary to furnish department managers with
meaningful and effective management outputs .
B. Suggest desirable changes in City policies and procedures
to utilize data processing facilities .
C. Formulate department budget, make recommendations, and
maintain strict budgetary control over Data Processing
Department.
D. Develop � and research new projects , system designs , and
flow charts .
E. Coordinate effort � departments in adapting to existing
or future systems , including the specification to be
performed by individuals to furnish needed input.
F. Exercises general supervision over departmental employees.
G. Performs related work as required.

SECTION III: The Data Processing Director shall be appointed �,
by the Ma.yor, subject to confirmation by a majority of the members of the
City Council. The Director shall serve at the pleasurecf the appointing
authority.
The salary of the Data Processing Directar shall be determined
and provided for in the annual City Budget and as otherwise provided
by law. Such Director shall be responsible to the Ma.yor and report to
his office on a regular basis .
SECTION IV: The qualif.ications of such Data Processing
Director shall be as follows :
A. Such Director shall ha:ve a thorough and up-to-date
knowledge of modern methods and techniques of Data
Processing as applied to Municipal computer operation
and of the type and system employed in the City of �
Renton.
B. Such person must have considerable background training
and experience in assembler type language and proficiency
in debu��ing programs , flow charting, systems design,
and all related and incidental phases of general computer
operations .
C. Such person, must in addition thereto, have an in-depth
knowledge of computer hardware and accounting principles.
The minimum E��a��on�:lrequirements shall include graduation
from high school or its equivalent, such as G.E. D. or successful
completion of a vocational school curriculum with major emphasis on
data processing and related fieTds .
SECTION V: In addition to the qualifications and duties
specified in the immediately prec.eding paragraph, the Data Processing
Director shall further comply with the requiremerits as outlined in
the "Job Description Schedules" as established by the City from time to
time, and which shall be supplemerital to the qualifications hereinabove
outlined.

SECTION VI: Any and all Ordinances or parts aE Ordinances
in conflict herewith are l�eby repealed.
SECTION VII: This Ordinance shall be in full force and
effect upon its passage, approval and five days after its publication,
unless otherwise provided for hereinabove.
