AMENDIN� CHAPTER 3 of. TI,TLE VII (FIP.E RFGULATIONS)

1HE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENiON, WASHINGTOiQ, DO
OR�L�IN AS FOLLOWS :
SEC'�IOT1 � . Existing Section 7-301 of Title VII (Fire
Regulations) of Ordinance No. 1628 entitled "Code of General Ordinances
of the City of R.enton" is hereby amended to read as follows :
Section T-301, as amerided: CREATION- MAP: This Chapter
shall be known as the '"rire Zoning Cha�ter': and sane shall consist of
the text hereof and of that certain maP dated April 5 , 1976
identified by the approving signature of the Mayor and the ClerZ�. on the I
title page thereof, and marked and designated as the map of the fire
zones of the City of Renton, which map is no�a on file in the office
of the City Clerk. Said ma.p. has heretofore been duly examined in
detail by the City Council, and the same, together with any revisions ,
additi,ons or modifications hereafter adopted or filed �aitn the City
Clerk, is hereby adopted as a part of this Chapter and by this reference
incorpo°�ated herein as if il.�lly set forth. Said Chapter and all of its
terms are to be read and interpreted in the lightcf the contents of said
map. If any conflict between the map and the text of this Chapter is
deemed to arise, the text of the Chapter shall prevails
I SECTION II : Existing Section 7�302 of !itle VII (Fire
Regulations) o� Ordinance PJoe 1628 entitled "Code of General Ordinances
of the City of P.enton" is hereby amended to read as follows :

� Chapter and the establishment of fire zones as hereinafter designated �
� is to provide protection o� closely built comnercial districts against
the hazards of fire spreading �rom building to building.

SECTION III : Existing Section 7-303 of Title VII (Fire
Regulations) of� Ordinance No. 1628 entitled "Code of General Ordinances
of the City of Renton" is hereby amended to read as follows:
Sectiori 7-303 , as amended: FIRE .ZONES : The City is hereby divided
into three ( 3.) types of fire zones , to-wit: Fire Zones l , 2 and 3 ;
such division reflects the findings of the City Council as to the
degree of, fire protection needed in the construction of various
structures, baeed on the recommendations made by the .Fire and
Building Departments after appropriate studies thereof. Fire Zone l
shall be the most restrictive while Fire Zones 2 and 3 al
sh 1 be less
restrictive as herein set forth.
A. Fire Zone 1 shall include and consist of the areas
designated as such in said map above referred to.
Buildings or structures hereafter erected, constr.ucted
or moved within or into Fire Zone l shall be only
Type I'.;' II , III or IV constr.uction as defined in the
City of Renton Building Code.
B. Fire Zone 2 shall include and consist of the areas
designated as such in said map above referred to.
Buildings or structures herea�ter. erected, constructed
or moved within or into Fire .Zone 2 shall be only as
defined in the City of Renton Building Code for Fire
Zone 2 type constr.uction.
EXCEPTION: New buildings , buildings changed from one
occupancy group or division �thereof to another occupancy
group or division, and buildings remodeled in excess
of 500 of value within any 12 month period must comply
with the following: Buildings over. 6 ,000 square feet
in one floor or over two stores in height and not having
at least 20 feet of operi space on three sides must be
prote.cted by an automatic fire extinguishing system as
prescribed in Uniform Building Code Standards . If the
Uniform Building Code is more restr.ictive than this
Exception, the Uniform Building Code shall apply.
C. Fire Zone 3 : Fire Zone 3 shall include and consist
of the areas designated as such in said map abo�ve referred
I to. Buildings or structures hereafter erec.ted, constructed
mr moved within or into Fire Zone .3 shall coinply with the
applicable requirements of the City of Renton Building
Code for Fire Zone 3 type construction.
SECTION IV: Any and all Ordinances or parts of Ordinances
in conflict herewith are her.eby repealed.

SECTION V : This Ordinance .shall be in full force and effect
upon its passage, approval and five days after its publication.
