GITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON
ORDINANCE N0. 3217
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON
AMENDING PORTIONS OF CHAPTER 3 OF TITLE IV (BUILDING
REGULATIONS) OF ORDINANCE N0. 1628 ENTITLED "CODE
OF GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF RENTON"
RELATING TO "NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE"
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON,
WASHINGTON, AS FOLLOWS :
SECTION I : Existing Section 4-301 of Chapter 3 , Title IV
(Buildizg Regulations) of Ordinance No. 1628 entitled "Cod� of
General Ordinances of the City of Renton" is hereby amended to read
as follows :
Section 4-301, r�s amended: ADOPTION. The "National
Electrical Code, 1978 Edition" issued by the National Fire Protection
Association, of which not less than three ( 3 ) printed copies in book
form have heretofore been filed in the office of the City Clerk and
made available for examination by the public, is hereby adopted as
the "National Electrical Code" for the City of Renton, which Code may be
hereafter designated as "City of Renton Electrical Code" ; and any and
all amendments , additions or modifications thereto when printed and
filed with the City Clerk of the City of Renton by authorization of
the City Council from time to time shall be considered and accepted and
constitute a part of such Code without the necessity of further adoption
of such amendments, modifications or additions by the legislative
authority of the City of Renton or by ordinance.
SECTION II : � Existing Section 4-302 of Chapter 3 , Title
IV (Building Regulations) of Ordinance No. 1628 entitled "Code of
General Ordinances of the City of Renton" is hereby amended to read as
follows:
Section 4-302 , as amended: REFERENCE : By the reference 1I
thereto made hereinabove, said "National Electrical Code, together with ;
any and all amendments, modifica�ions or additions thereto hereafter
printed and filed with the City Clerk as hereinabove specified, are

incorporated in and made a part of this Ordinance as fully and with the II
same effect as if set out herein in full, or as if adopted by subsequent
ordinances amendatory hereof.
SECTION III: Existing Section 4-304 of Chapter 3 , Title
IV (Building Regulations) of Ordinance No. 1628 entitled "Code of
, General Ordinances of the City of Renton" is hereby amended to read
as follows :
Section 4-304, as amended: ADDITIONS AND AMENDMENTS :

(A) The Washington State Department of Labor and INdustries Rules
and Regulations for Insta�ling Electrical Wires and Equipment and
Administrative Rules" are hereby adopted by reference and as same
may be amended from time to time. (B) All occupancies other than
residental occupancies shall be wired only with busways or raceways
or cable trays, or types A. L. S. , M. I . or M. C. (metalclad interlocked
armored) cables ; subject to National Electrical Code) . (C) EXISTING
BUILDINGS: A change of occupancy, minor remodeling, or additions
under two hundred ( 200) square feet may be wired in like manner as
existing, provided existing wiring has been maintained in a safe manner
and is in accordance with the National Electr�.cal Code and (A) above
SECTION IV: Existing subsection (A) l : of Section 4-305
of Chapter 3, Title IV (Building Regulations) of Ordinance No . 1628
entitled "Code of General Ordinances of the City of Renton," -_is __: ,
hereby amended to read as follows :
Section 4-305 (A) l . , as amended: The ;ninimum fee for any
electr.ical permit shall be $10. 00 when total cost of work is $50. 00
or less .
SECTION V: All ordinances or parts of ordinances in
conflict herewith are her�by repealed. I,
SECTION VI : This Ordinance shall be in full force and
