HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 0650.1 RESOLUTION NO. 650 WHEREAS, the City of Renton, Washington, heretofore acted as sponsor with the Federal Works Agency, for the construction of the Renton Hospital, known as F. W. A. Project #Washington 45 -229 -F. -and WHEREAS, because of being a city of the third class it had no authority to maintain or operate a hospital, and therefore, was by law prohibited from accepting the management of the hospital, and previous attempts to enlarge the City limits so as to obtain the necessary pop- ulation to qualify as a second class city, were unsuccessfult and WHEREAS, there has been filed with the City Council a petition of the Federal Public Housing Authority asking that the area known as the Renton Highlands, be annexed to the corporate limits of the City of Renton, and WHEREAS, there is within said area sufficient population to justify the changing of the classification of the City of Renton from a City of the third class to a city of the second class, and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Renton, are in favor of such annexation and intend to proceed expeditiously therewith, and upon the completion of such annexation will endeavor to change the classification of the City of Renton to that of a city of the second class, and as such be legally authorized to maintain and operate a hospital. Now, therefore,, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Renton, Washington as follows: Section 1: That it is the intention of the City Council to proceed expeditiously with the annexation of the area known as the Renton Highlands and that upon the completion of such annexation to endeavor, pursuant the laws of the State of Washington, to change the classification of the City of Renton to that of a city of the second class. -1- i Section 2: That upon the completion of such annexation and change of classification, the City of Renton will endeavor to obtain from the Federal Government the hospital known as F. W. A, Project # Washingtoo 45-229-F, for the purpose of having the same operated as a hospital open to the use and enjoyment of all the citizens of Renton and the surrounding area. Section 3: That in order to expedite the matters pertain- ing thereto, the City Council does hereby appoint John Wallop, as a representative of the City of Renton to carry on the preliminary negotiations looking toward the acquisition of such project by the City of Renton, Washington.
