HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 0657RESOLUTION NO. 657 WHEREAS the City Council of the City of Renton strongly supports the acouisition of Boeing Renton Airstrip by the City of Renton for the purpose of fostering private flying for people of the area, and WHEREAS the City Council of the City of Renton feel that said City is in a good position financially to properly administer the airfield and to promote aviation in the Pacific Northwest, and WHEREAS the City of Renton has plans for an improved Park and Airport development plant that would beautify this area and be a source of great attraction for transient aircraft, and WHEREAS this field is located almost entirely within the corporate city limits of Renton and rightfully should be owned by The City, and administration and control would be easier if control of the field was unified with local City Control, and WHEREAS the City of Renton intends to cooperate with the Port Commission and County in eliminating aviation problems arising from the various types of aircraft operations on ging County Field and Bow Lake Airport by promoting Boeing Renton field as a private airport for people of this area, and small transient planes, and WHEREAS the City of Renton can not fully understand the Seattle Port Commission's desire to operate this facility in con- junction with Bow Lake Field which may result in the delay in develop- ment of the Boeing Renton Airstrip potentialities, and WHEREAS if the Seattle Port Commission desires a field for private fliers they should acquire a less controversial field which would not infringe upon local municipal rights of the City of Renton, and WHEREAS the City of Renton has many local applicants for operations on the field who desire the City's administration and wish to see immediate occupancy and development, and iys in occupancy are harmful to private flying >st favorable weather for private fliers is the present time and in the near future weeks, and WHEREAS the City Council of the City of Renton feel that strong community spirit will arise against the Port Commission from the thousands of residents in the South District thereby endangering the Port Commission in their administration of aviation facilities in the Northwest. .NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the (City Council) of the City of Renton hereby protest the acquisition of Boeing Renton Air- field by the Port Commission) BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this protest be carried on by legislative, municipal and executive means until the potential wrong done to the City of Renton be corrected. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Renton desires the Port Commission to relinquish their rights on Boeing Airfield and allow the City of Renton to take occupancy, thereby eliminating the dangerous friction that can possibly permanently affect the future of aviation in the South District and the resultant danger to the Entire Northwest.
