CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON ORDINANCE NO. 3924 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, AMENDING A PORTION OF SECTION 7-905 OF TITLE VII (FIRE REGULATION5) OF ORDINANCE NO. 1628 ENTITLED "CODE OF GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF RENTON" RELATING TO UFC SPRINKLER REQUIREMENT REGARDING R-1-5 ZONE THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION I: Existing subsection (I) 2 . of Section 7-905 of Title VII, (Fire Regulations) of Ordinance No. 1628 entitled "Code of General Ordinances of the City of Renton" is hereby amended to read as follows: Section 7-905 (I) 2 . , as amended: All occupancies except Group M; Except for Group M Occupancies, an automatic sprinkler system shall be installed: (a) In every story or basement of all buildings when the floor area exceeds one thousand five hundred (1, 500) square feet and there is not provided at least twenty (20) square feet of opening entirely above the adjoining ground level in each fifty (50) lineal feet or fraction thereof of exterior wall in the story or basement on at least one side of the building. Openings shall have a minimum dimension of not less than thirty inches �30") . Such openings shall be accessible to the Fire Department from the exterior and shall not be obstructed in a manner that the fire fighting or rescue cannot be accomplished from the exterior. When openings in a story are provided on only one side and the opposite wall of such story is more than seventy five (75 ' ) from such openings, the story shall be provided with an approved automatic -1- - . , . a� ' , , � . . . � ORDINANCE N0. 3924 sprinkler, or openings as specified above shall be provided on at least two (2 ) sides of an extension wall on the story. If any portion of a basement is located more than seventy five feet (75 ' ) from openings required in this Section, the basement shall be provided with an approved automatic sprinkler system. (b) At the top of rubbish and line chutes and in their terminal rooms. Chutes extending through three (3) or more floors shall have additional sprinkler heads installed within such chutes or alternate floors. Sprinkler heads shall be accessible for servicing. (c) In rooms where nitrate film is stored or handled. (d) In protected combustible fiber storage vaults as defined � in the Fire Code. SECTION II : Existing subsection (I) (a) of Section 7-905 of Title VII (Fire Regulations) of Ordinance No. 1628 entitled "Code of General Ordinances of the City of Renton" is hereby amended to read as follows• Section 7-905 (I) 8 , as amended: Group R Occupancies: (a) Division l: When the occupancy has over twelve thousand (12 , 000 ) square feet of floor area or more than forty feet (40 ' ) in height. (b) Division 3 : Dwellings when proposed within an R-1-5 zone, clustered or constructed so that when ��ttached, the total square foot floor area of all dwelling units exceeds twelve thousand square feet.
