Z WHEREAS the employees of the City of Renton, a Municipal Corporation under the laws of .the State of Washington, including the members of the "Renton Police Department" have, for several years past, been members of the "Statewide City".Employees Retirement System" and WHEREAS it has been determined that the benefits derived and to be derived from said "Statewide City Employees. Retirement System; are inadequate and insufficient and WHEREAS under the 1954 extension of the "Federal Social Security Law" it has become possible for members of said "Retirement System"' to be included under the "Old Age and Survivors Insurance of the Social Security Program" and the "miscellaneous personnel" of the City of Renton having heretofore met all the conditions and requirements precedent to.coverage under said ""Social Security System" and they being now covered, and WHEREAS the uniformed personnel, to -wit the "Renton Police Department", have heretofore and are now excluded from such coverage under the "So;cial Security Program" by reason of their prior and present membership in said "Statewide City Employees Retirement System's, and WHEREAS it is deemed to the best interests of said uniformed personnel and in the interest of the City of Renton and other municipalities to provide for proper amendments to the "Social -Security Program" and for enabling State Legislation, now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, AS FOLLOWS SECTION I: It is found that the above facts and recitations are true and correct; that the elected officials of the State of Washington and now serving.in the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives be encouraged and requested to take all necessary steps and actions to provide and support adequate amendments to the present "Social Security Program" so as to allow uniformed personnel, such as members of the "Renton Police Department", to be Page One likewise covered by the "Old Age and Survivors Insurance of the Social Security Program", at local option, in conjunction with their presently existing "Statewide City Employees Retirement System", which latter system, seems inadequate and insufficient to provide for the needs of uniformed personnel. SECTION II: That the amendments to the aforesaid "Old Age and Survivors Insurance of the Social Security Program" be in such manner and be based on such conditions as that 1954 amendment to the "Federal Social Security Law" providing for a referendum among the City employees so effected and such other requirements as have heretofore been applied to other City employees classified under "miscellaneous personnel"'.
