HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 0981l RESOLUTION NO. 981 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Renton has been advised this date that a section of the Limited Access State Highway at Windsor Hills, Renton, has supposedly been completed to be open for traffic on or about October 23, 1958; and WHEREAS, it has been found and determined after thorough investigation by the Police, Street and other Departments of the City that the present physical layout of said intersection is completely inadequate, insufficient and unsafe due to the lack of proper safeguards and traffic devices, including illumination; and WHEREAS, any traffic on'..Sunset Highway (Primary State Highway No. 2) turning north unto said new highway will constitute a decided hazard to life and limb becuase - of already overcrowded traffic conditions existing on said Sunset Highway; and WHEREAS, the City of Renton, after due deliberation, cannot assume the responsibility of controlling or regulating such traffic leading unto said Limited Access State Highway, which responsibility under the present circumstances is that of the State highway Department, NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, AS FOLLOWS: SECTION I: The City Council hereby finds the above facts and recitals to be true and supported by circumstantial evidence; that any attempt to permit vehicular traffic to enter the Limited Access State Highway in a northerly direction from the Sunset Highway under the present circumstances and conditions as created by the State Highway. Department, and which are deemed to be completely inadequate, would create a very serious hazard and danger to life and limb of every motorist using said highway. SECTION II: The City of Renton therefore, in the full exercise of its police power and having in mind the welfare of its citizens and all others using said highway will prohibit the use of and entry unto said Limited Access State Highway in a northerly direction from the intersection with the Sunset Highway until such time as the State Highway Department has assumed the full responsibility for the safe regulation and control of all traffic at said intersection, including the installation of proper signs, warnings and illumination. — 1 — PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL this 21st day of October, 1958.
