THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN AS FO LLOk7S : SECTION 1: Ordinance No, 1317 of the City of Renton, entitled: "An ordinance of the City of Renton, Washington, providing for the organizing and governing of said city as a city of the second class; enumerating the officers thereof; providing for appointment, terms of office, duties, and compensation of officers, and the appointment of assis- tants; continuing in effect the existing ordinances; and repealing conflicting ordinances and provisions", be and is hereby amended by adding to Section 2 thereof the following additional designation of officers, to -wit: SUPERINTENDENT OF UTILITIES -appointive --term 2 years - salary as fixed In City Budget. SECTION 2: Existing Section Five of Ordinance No. 13170 reading as follows: "The duties and powers of each officer of the City shall be those prescribed by the laws of the State and by Ordinances of the City. The Street Commissioner shall also be, and shall serve in the position of, Superintendent of Utilities. The duties of the office of City Clerk shall not include any of the duties or functions of Purchasing Agent, but the City Clerk shall be eligible for appointment to the separate posi- tion of Purchasing Agent under applicable Ordinances of the City. The duties of the office of City Treasurer shall not include any of the duties or functions of Deputy Registrar of Voters, but the City Treasurer shall be eligible for ap- pointment to the separate position of Deputy Registrar of Voters under applicable Ordinances of the City. The Chief of Police shall be eligible for appointment to the separate position of Assistant Health Officer under applicable Ordi- nances of the City. The City Council shall elect from among its members a President of the City Council, who shall preside at all meetings of the Council when the mayor is not present, and who shall act as Mayor and exercise the authority and per- form the duties thereof whenever there is a vacancy in the .office of mayor or he is absent from the City or unable from any cause to discharge the duties of his office", BE AND THE SAME IS HEREBY AIVENDED TO READ AS FOLLOWS: AMENDED SECTION 5: The duties and powers of each officer of the City shall be those prescribed by the laws of the State and by Ordinances of the City. The duties of the office of City Engineer shall not include the duties or functions of Street Commissioner, but the City Engineer shall be eligible for appointment to the office of Street Commissioner. The separate office of Superintendent of Utilities is hereby created and established, effective January 1, 1951, to receive such salary as may be fixed annually in the City Budget; the duties of Superintendent of Utilities to include supervision of water and sewer utilities and of garbage disposal. The duties of the office of City Clerk shall not include any of the duties or functions of Purchasing Agent.0 but the City Clerk shall be eligible for appointment to the sepa- rate position of Purchasing Agent under applicable Ordinances of the City. The duties of the office of City Treasurer shall not include any of the duties or functions of Deputy Registrar of Voters, but the City Treasur- er shall be eligible for appointment to the separate position of Deputy Registrar of Voters under applicable Ordinances of the City. The Chief of Police shall be eligible for appointment to the separate position of Assistant Health Officer under applicable Ordinances of the City.
