HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 1511OWD �`Y?q ORDINANCE NO. 1511 1 ASI ORDINAL?CE OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, ESTAB- LISHING A "TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS BUREAU IN THE POLICE COURT OF THE CITY OF RENTON, DEFINING ITS DUTIES, PROVIDING FOR THE ENFORCEMENT THEREOF AND PENALTY FOR VIOLATIONS, AMENDING SECTION X, (a) and (b) of ORDINANCE 1143, as AMP -,LADED BY ORDINANCES 1235, 1239 and 1472. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON AS FOLLOWS: Section I: Traffic Violations Bureau. There is hereby created and established within the Police Court of the City of Renton a Traffic Violations Bureau subject to the control and direction of the Police y Judge, to assist the said Judge with the clerical work of traffic cases. Said Bureau shall be in charge of such person or persons and shall be open at such hours and at such places as the said Police Judge may designate from time to time. The Police Judge may appoint and designate one of the persons employed in such Traffic Violations Bureau as Chief Traffic Violations Bureau Clerk, Section II: Posting of bail with Traffic Violations Bureau; Forfeitures. 1. The Police Judge shall designate the specified offenses under the traffic ordinances of the City of Renton in respect to which posting of bail may be accepted by the Traffic Violations Bureau, and he may further prescribe by regulation from time to time the offenses and the circumstances for which such bail may be forfeited by the person charged with such an offen.e, or such person may request a trial as authorized by law. 2. At the time bail is posted for a specified offense, the date and time of trial must then be set by the Traffic Violations Bureau. Section III: Duties of the Traffic Violations Bureau. The duties of the Traffic Violations Bureau shall include, among others, the following: 1, It shall accept designated_bail from and issue receipts to such violators as are permitted and desire to forfeit bail, 2. It shall accept designated bail from and issue receipts to all persons who must or wish to be heard in Court, enter the time of their appearance on the Court docket and notify the arresting officer and witnesses, if any, to be present at trial. 3. It shall keep a proper and complete record of all bail forfeitures in cases wherein any person has been charged with violation of the traffic ordinances of the City of Renton, together with a record of the final disposition of all such alleged offenses and violations. 4- It shall issue to the individual police officer serially numbered citation forms for the purpose of notifying any person or persons charged with the violation of any traffic ordinance of the of City of Renton,/the nature of the charge and the date and place of trial thereon; and it shall keep a complete record of all such forms issued including any forms spoiled or upon which an entry has been made but not issued to an alteged violator. Such citation forms numbered serially in quadruplicate shall be furnished unto the Traffic Viola- tions Bureau by the Chief of Police of the City of Renton. All police officers and other law enforcement officers of the City of Renton issuing such a citation to an alleged offender of any of the traffic ordinances of the City of Renton shall deposit a copy of said citation with the Traffic Violations Bureau as soon as practicable, Section IV: Section X (a) and (b) of Ordinance No. 1LL72 reading as follows: (a) Any person, firm or corporation charged with an offense under Section Five (5) or Section Six (6) of this Ordinance may post bail with the Traffic Violations Section of the Police Department of the City of Renton in the sum of $1,00 if so posted within seven (7) days from the date of such notice or ticket or in the sum of $2.00 if so posted after the seventh day and before the 30th day from the date of such notice or ticket, or trial may be requested as authorized by law. (b) Any person, firm or corporation who wilfully neglects to answer to the charges set forth in the notice or ticket or post bail therefor as hereinabove provided, shall be guilty of a violation of this Ordinance, regardless of the charges for which the notice was originally issued, and shall upon conviction thereof be fined in a sum not exceeding $100.00 and costs. 2- BE AND THE SAME IS HEREBY AMENDED AND RE-ENACTED TO READ AS FOLLOWS: AMENDED SECTION X: (a) Any person, firm or corporation charged with an offense under Section Five (5) or Section Six (6) of this Ordinance (Ordinance No. 1143 as amended by Ordinances Nos. 1235, 1239 and 1472) may post bail with the Traffic Violations Bureau of the Police Court of the City of Renton in the sum of $1.00 if so posted within seven (7) days from the date of such notice or in the sum of $2.00 if so posted after the seventh day and before the 30th day from the date of such notice and such bail may then be forfeited or trial may be requested as authorized by law. (b) Any person, firm or corporation who neglects to answer to the charges set forth in such notice or to post bail therefor as hereinabove provided shall be guilty of a violation of this Ordinance regardless of the charges for which the notice was originally issued and shall upon conviction thereof be fined in a sum not exceeding $100.00. Section V Any Ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed and superseded. Section VI: This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect after its passage, approval and legal publication. PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL this 8th day of March, 1955• Flo ' V�.
