ORDINANCE NO.
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF RE -i.,] TON , WASHINGTQN,
ADOPTING, ESTABLISHING AND DEFINING AN ELECTRICAL
CODE FOR THE CITY, ESTABLISHING RULES AND REGULA-
TIONS IN THE HANDLING, INSTALLATION, OPERATION OF
ELECT_R,ICITY AND ELECTRICALLY OPERATED DEVICES; RE-
QUIRING PERMITS; PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS
THEREOF AND REPEALING SECTION II, OF OROINANCE'NO.
1307 AND ALL OTHER ORDINANCES OR FARTS OF ORDINANCES
IN CONFLICT HEREWITH.
1AFHEREAS, not less than three printed copies in book form of an
ELECTRICAL CODE entitled NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE, 1956 EDITION, as
issued by the "NATIONAL FIRE PROTECTION ASSOCIATION", have heretofore
been filed in the Office of the City Clerk of the City of Renton for
use and examination by the public, and it is deemed advisable to adopt
same by reference, together with amendments thereof or additions there-
to; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT ORDAINED BY 'FRE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF IHE CITY OF
RENTON, AS FOLLO+KS :
SECTION I: The said Electrical Code, entitled NATIONAL ELECTRICAL
CODE, 1956, EDITION, as issued by the "NATIONAL FIRE PROTECTION ASSOCIA-
TION" (Standard of the National Board of Fire Underwriters for Electrical
Wiring and Apparatus) hereinafter referred to as the "RENTON ELECTRICAL
CODE", of which not less than three printed copies in book form have
heretofore been filed in the Office of the City Clerk, is hereby adopted
as the Electrical Code for the City of Renton, and any and all amendments
thereof and additions thereto and printed and filed with the City Clerk
by authorization of the City Council, shall be considered, accepted, be
and constitute part of such Code without the necessity of further adoption
of such amendments or additions by the legislative authority, of the City
or by ordinance.
SECTIOTt II
By the references thereto made hereinabove, said
Electrical Code, together with any and all amendments thereof and addi-
tions thereto hereafter printed and filed with the City Clerk as herein-
above specified, are incorporated in and made a part of this Ordinance

as fully and with the same effect as if set out herein in full, or
as if adopted by subsequent ordinances amendatory hereof.
SECTION III: The following are additions and amendments to
the aforesaid National Electric Code for wiring in commercial
buildings in Fire Zone No. l:
Article 346 - Rigid Metal Conduit:
Section 3472 - That hereafter all commercial buildings in
Fire Zone No. 1 located within the City shall be wired in
rigid conduit.
Article 348 - Electrical Metallic Tubing:
Section 3481 - Installations of electrical metallic tubing
shall comply with the provisions of Section 3001 to 3020 in-
clusive, and in addition shall comply with the provisions of
the following Section 3482 to 3491 inclusive.
Section 3491 - Hereafter all commercial buildings in Fire
Zone No. 1 located within the City shall be wired in electrical
metallic tubing.
Article 350 - Flexible Metal Conduits:
Section 3501 - Scope: Installations of flexible metal
conduit shall comply with the provisions of Section 3001 to
3020 inclusive, Section 3343, 3344 and 3348, and of Sections
3465 and 3468 inclusive, and in addition shall comply with
the provisions of the following Sections 3502, 3503 and 3504.
Section 3504 - That hereafter all commercial buildings
in Fire Zone No. 1 located int,he City shall be wired in
flexible metal conduit.

Article 353 - Surface 1"fetal Raceway:
Section 3521 - Scope. Installation of surface metal
raceways shall comply with the provisions of Section 3001
to 3020 inclusive, and in addition shall comply with the
provisions of the following Section 3522 to 3528 inclusive.
Section 3528 - That hereafter all commercial buildings
in Fire Zone No. 1 located within the City shall wire in
surface metal raceway.
SECTION IV: Existing Section II of Ordinance No. 1307 and any
and all other Ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith
are hereby repealed.
SECTION V: This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect
from and after its passage, approval and legal, publication as provided
by law.
