HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 1323E) ORDINANCE N0. 1323 AN ORDINANCE REGULATING THE BUSINESS OF OPERATING MOTOR BUSES ON THE STREETS OF THE CITY OF RENTON FOR TRANSPORTATION OF PASSENGERS FOR HIRE; REQUIRING LICENSES OR FRANCHISES FOR THE SANE; AND PROVIDING A PENALTY FOR VIOLATION THEREOF. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTONS SECTION is It shall be unlawful for any person, firm, cor- poration, or association to transport passengers for hire, -'or to engage in the business of transporting persons for hire, by the operation and use of motor coaches or motor buses other than taxicabs, having a capacity of ten or more passengers, on or over the streets of the City of Renton, in intra -City hauling, from one point in the City to another point within the City# without first obtaining and having in force and effect a license or franchise so to doff SECTION 2s The license or franchise required hereunder shall be obtained by submitting written application for same to the City Council of the City, stating the proposed routes, hours,* and schedules of operation and the rates proposed to be charged for such transportation. The City Council shall determine the need and propriety of granting any and all licenses and franchises hereunder# and the terms and conditions upon which same shall be granted; provided, that no exclusive license or franchise shall be granted. The Granting of any such license or franchise shall be done by Ordinance, SECTION 32 Any person, firm, corporation or association violating any provision of this Ordinance shall upon conviction thereof be fined in any sum not exceeding $300,00, or by im- prisonment in the City Jail for any period not exceeding 90 days, or by both such fine and imprisonment* Each violation shall cons- stitute a separate offense hereunder. SECTION 4$ This Ordinance shall not apply to the.trans- porting of passengers for hire from the City to terminal points r W ` V outside of the City Limits of Rentonj or from outside terminal points into the City; Provided however* that mere'departures from the City Limits enroute'from one point in the City to an- other point in the City shall not bring the transportation with- in the exclusions and scope of this Section 4r SECTION 5t If any portion, Section, clause, or -provision of this Ordinance be adjudged invalid, the remaining portions, Sections, and provisions not expressly adjudged invalid shall .continue and remain in full force and effects SECTION 6s This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect five days after its passage, approval and publications Passed by the City Council this 21st day of September, 1948.
