HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 4279 CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON RESOLUTION NO. 42�9 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, AUTHORIZING THE PERIODIC TEMPORARY CLOSURES OF SUNSET LANE NE, GLENNWOOD AVENUE NE, HARRINGTON AVENUE NE AND NE 10T" STREET, FOR THE SUNSET LANE NE IMPROVEMENT PROJECT. WHEREAS, as part of the Transportation Element of the Sunset Area Revitalization Plan, the objective of the Sunset Lane NE Improvement Project is to design and construct improvements to Sunset Lane and surrounding streets to support the redevelopment of the Sunset Area Community by improving all forms of mobility; and WHEREAS, this project will provide a number of improvements to improve mobility and to enhance the neighborhood. Traffic improvements will include raised intersections, new curb and gutter, upgraded pedestrian ramps and crosswalks, street lighting, and streetscape elements such as street trees. The project will also address the relocation of public and franchise utilities; and WHEREAS, In order to reconstruct several of the roadways within the project in an efficient manner with minimal impact on the community, two phases of periodic temporary street closures will be required; and WHEREAS, Phase 1 of the project, tentatively beginning in Spring 2016, may require periodic closures for up to 120 calendar days of Sunset Lane NE from the KCLS Library to Glennwood Avenue NE; Glennwood Avenue NE, from Sunset Lane NE to Harrington Avenue NE; and, Harrington Avenue NE between NE Sunset Blvd and NE 10th Street; and 1 RESOLUTION NO. 42�9 WHEREAS, Phase 2 of the project, tentatively beginning Summer 2016, may require periodic closures for up to 90 calendar days of Sunset Lane NE, from the KCLS Library to NE 10tn Street; and NE 10t" Street, between Harrington Avenue NE and NE Sunset Boulevard; and WHEREAS, pursuant to RMC 9-9-3 the City Council is to authorize such closures by means of a resolution; and WHEREAS, the City wishes to provide full and adequate notice to the public of the extent and nature of such closures; NOW,THEREFORE, THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION I. The above recitals are found to be true and correct in all respects. SECTION II. The City Council does hereby authorize the temporary closures to allow the City to complete the Sunset Lane NE Improvement Project as follows: • Sunset Lane NE from the KCLS Library to Glennwood Avenue NE; Glennwood Avenue NE, from Sunset Lane NE to Harrington Avenue NE; and, Harrington Avenue NE between NE Sunset Blvd and NE 10t" Street, tentatively beginning in Spring 2016 for up to 120 calendar days; and • Sunset Lane NE, from the KCLS Library to NE 10th Street; and NE 10t" Street, between Harrington Avenue NE and NE Sunset Boulevard. tentatively beginning Summer 2016 for up to 90 days. SECTION III.
