The production in 2011 was a successful partnership with Renton Civic Theater that lowered operating costs of the production by reducing City staff and material expenses related to the Recreation Division as being solely responsible for producing the show. The fee waiver request includes $4,850.00 in rental fees. Renton Civic Theater will pay the City of Renton $2,100, which covers City staff expense to open, close, and monitor the theatre during rehearsals and performances. Renton Civic Theater assumes all other expenses of the production. Staff is optimistic this production will continue to be more financially solvent working with Renton Civic Theater. This will result in making the partnership closer to a cost recovery model, while providing optimal service to the community. Historically, the Summer Teen Musical provides an opportunity for teens to experience auditions, rehearsals, and performances of a full-scale musical production. In addition, students receive training in voice, dance, stage direction, and technical aspects of theater such as lighting design, scene construction, costuming, and theatrical makeup. The 2012 annual Summer Teen Musical performances are scheduled to run two weekends (July 27–28 and August 3–5, 2012) and will remain a part of the IKEA Renton River Days celebrations.
