The meeting was called to order at 6:42 p.m. DISCUSSItJN: The Cammissioners decided to deviate fram the agenda and begin the meeting by discussing the interviews for new eommissianers held an May 5 and May $, 2Q07. Erica Rehberg, Eric Claytan, Raymond Lamb, Audrey Goodwin, and Serena Aquino {youth representative} were interviewed. The Commissian was in agreement that aI1 f ve candidates were extremely we11 qualified and it was very difficult to make a decisian. . - "I'he Cam�nissianers reviewed their interview sheets, discusscd the candidates' positives and negatives, and who would be the best fit far the Commission. Lari made a motian to ;,�, recommend Erica Rehberg, Audrey Gaodwin, and Serena Aquino ta Mayor Keolker. Second by Charles. A11 were in favar, mation carried. Bonnie explained the Mayor interviews and appoints candidates, then sends to Council far confirmatian. APPROtTAL OF MINUTES: Antonio made a motion to approve the March 14, 2007 rninutes as submitted. Second by KeI}y. A11 were in favar, motian carried. The April 11, 2007 minutes were documented as not having a quorum. . COMMF,NTS: With the additian of the new t�iembers to the Carnmissian there wi]1 be an opportunity to do some house cleaning af natebaaks, identification materials such as the informatianal pamphlet, clathing,and husiness cards. Once all three members are appointed,.the Commission will need ta relocate ta a laarger conferenc�raom in Ciry Ha�l. Sinee it is a . public meeting, the room change wi11 be published in the newspaper. ('c�mmissic�n�rs are encoura�ed to contact Bonnie if they �vould like additional links added. No action was taken on Investigation/Reports or Mentor Development. In order to proceed in '� supporting any efforts of the Human Services Department, the Advisory Commissian on Diversity is waiting for specific tasks to be recommended. The Service & Appreciation Award has been sent. Bonnie explained this could be ongoing and is an eXcellent recognition tool: Renton River Days: There was continued discussian of the opportunity for the Commission to work with Renton River Days to educate and celebrate diversity through an entertainment forum. Lari made a motion to utilize $300 of the budget to.sponsor a portion of the 2007 Renton River Days entertainment, with the understanding that the RRD entert�inment committee secure performances that reflect different cultures. Second by Kelly. Motion passed and carried. Additionally, Bonnie was asked to create a poster for display in the Community Services Booth during the Renton River Days Festival. Bonnie asked if anyone would be interested in signing up for a shift at the Community Services booth during the festival. A sign-up sheet will be provided at the June meeting to determine interest. Speakers for future meetings: Lari asked Gloria to contact Fire Cluef I3avid Daniels and invite him to speak at the June meeting. Carlos Guangorena,.from Plaza Bank in Kent, . which provides services in both English and Spanish will be invited in the future. Charles asked for an update on the survey. Bonnie explained that Terry Higashiyama would be distributing the questions to City Administrators. Once the commission reviews �' the information from the Administrators comments, they may want to consider using a City survey tool to ask additional questions of City employees. The purpose of the survey is to be an internal assessment of what City employees feel are the issues, concerns,and � opportunities created by serving a diverse population and will assist the Commission in prioritizing their efforts and goals. ANNOUNCEMENTS: A flyer for a bench dedication at Heritage Park for the Barfield Family was distributed, a�ong with the May 2007 Calendar of Events. The Renton Public Library is having two public meetings to discuss their Master Plan. The first meeting will be Wednesday, May 23, 2007, at the North Highlands Neighborhood Center, 7:00 p.m. — 8:30 p.m. The second meeting will be Thursday, May 24, 2007, Renton City Hall, 7�' Floor, Council Chambers, 7:00 p.m.—8:30 p.m. The pu�pose is to discuss services offered by the library and to receive input from the community to hetp shape solutions to meet future needs. ADJOURNMENT: Charles made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Second by Lari.
