CALL TO ORDER: Sandel Demastus called the meeting to order at 6:35 p.m.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA: Lari White made a motion to approve the Apri19, 2008, agenda
as written. Second by Charles Thomas. Motion carried.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Lari White made a motion to approve the March 12, 2008,
minutes as written. Second by Serena Aquino. Motion carried.
OLD BUSINESS: The"City of Renton Seeks Candidates for Advisory Commission on
Diversity"press release was included in the April packets. Applications must be submitted by
5:00 p.m. on Apri121, 2008, with interviews scheduled for the first week of May 2008. There
were two applications on file(Cheryl Haskins and Linda Mae Smith) with one new submission
from Jennifer Knickerbocker. Lari White, Charles Thomas, and Antonio Cube volunteered to be
on the interview panel. Jerry Rerecich will also attend. Time permitting, Fire Chief David
Daniels would like to be included on the panel. Times and dates will be determined depending
on the number of applicants.
Gloria Gamba will email the Commissioners the questions used during the last interview process
and ask for their input for changes or additional questions.
NEW BUSINESS: Jerry Rerecich stressed the importance of attendance and in order to meet
the three enthusiastic goals established at the retreat, it is critical the committee members meet
prior to the monthly meeting in order to achieve those goals. Cornmissioners are encouraged to
contact staff to arrange for a conference room prior to the May meeting.

RTC CommUNITY Festival: The festival is scheduled far June 5, 2008,beginning at 4:00
p.m. Denis Law, Mayor, City of Rentan,will welcame the guests at 7:15 p.m. The festival
brachure will be available at the Cammission's May meeting. At that time, the hours for the
Cornmissianers to wark the baath will be decided.
ELECTION OF OFFICERS: During the March 2008 meeting, Sandel Demastus was elected
Chair; Lari White, Secxetary; and Charles Thornas was naminated for Vice Chair. Charles
'Thamas agreed ta con�inue as Vice Chair.
CCIMMTTTEE REPURTS. Lari White indicated that Amina Ahmed, Executive Director,
Refugee Women's Atliance, will speak at the May 2008 rneeting.
Future speakers may include the Renton Rotary President. Jerry Rerecich will get Lari White the
name of the President and aisa the names of the two Renton Kiwanis Club Presidents.
Preeti Shridhar, Communication Director for the City of Renton,has recornmended that Tracy
Cannelly from Seattle`s Office of Emergency Management(206-615-0287)would be another
interesting speaker. Tracy Connelly has developed several connections with various ethnic and
multi-cuitural groups in the Greater Seattle,Area. She is wiiling to share her contacts as well as
success stories and what has worked and what has not worked. While a great deal of her
emphasis has been reaching aut to groups with messages an emergency preparedness, she has
alsa partnered with other departrnents to work on other topics.

COMMENTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS: The Annual Volunteer Dinner will be held at the
Renton Senior Activity Center on April 30th. Doors will open at 5:45 p.m. Commissioners are
encouraged to attend and it was suggested they mingle with other boards, commissions, and
committees to get better acquainted.
On the Renton Ecumenical Council of Churches roster, Antonio Cube mentioned that Ed White
is now the Father of St. Stephen of the Martyr Parish. Charles Thomas noted the roster only
includes Christian churches.
ADJOURNMENT: Vern Nichols moved to adjourn the meeting at 7:19 p.m. Second by Lari
White. Motion carried.
