Robin Jones Adria Krail Rob Spier Catholic Communitv Services—Tracy Myers, Program Manager, outlined their Elizabeth Stevens emergency assistance services program. They support families located in multiple areas and are currently looking at location options. Catholic Community Absent: Services is one of the City's funded agencies. They were forced to turn away 330 people in June, including those in need of shelter assistance. Catholic Margie Albritton Community Services is trying to campaign more to promote awareness and Anthony Costanti seek private donations. Alicia Glenwell Samantha Williams St. Vincent DePaul—Lani Cavit provided an overview of their program. Their organization has been active in the Renton community since 1951. Services are Staff Contacts: provided by a trained all-volunteer staff. Until last year, food and funds were donated by the parishioners. Last year, Renton Community Foundation funded Karen Bergsvik their program, and they're proposed for first-time funding in 2009 from the City 425-430-6652 Renton. Ninety percent (90%)of their clients come from the City of Renton and kber4svik(c�ci.renton.wa.us the 98178 zip code. Sixty percent(60%)of their clients are walk-in. St. Vincent Tim Lawless De Paul serves anyone regardless of age or ethnic background. St. Vincent De 425-430-6653 Paul is also facing challenges in meeting the current demand and is turning tlawlessCa�ci.renton.wa.us away about thirty-five percent(35%) of those asking for help. Katie McClincy A question was raised regarding the City's policy on the separation of church 425-430-7555 and state. This has not been an issue in the funding process in the past, but if it kmcclincvfa�ci.renton.wa.us ever were, it would be forwarded to the City Attorney for clarification. Karen clarified the primary feeding programs that provide services for Renton residents: Salvation Army Food Bank, the Emergency Feeding Program (DSHS uses a lot), and St. Vincent De Paul as a back-up. Adria expressed her disappointment that Katherine House wasn't recommended for 2009 funding due to lack of information on the grant application. Had the application contained the information summarized in the Third Quarter 2008 report before them now, the outcome may have been different. Adria said they were unaware they had a Renton resident, and that the program was successful. Karen suggested scheduled field trips to the different agencies that Renton funds, including the A.R.I.S.E shelter. Housinq Reaair Assistan�rouram: Tim Lawless, Housing ReF�Coordinator for Renton, ' � ' �� presented a PowerPoint program providing an overview of the City'sFi'ousing repair program. As a result of the recent Benson Hill annexation, one additional staff person and a service vehicle was added to support the program. Tim reviewed the application and eligibility requirements. Processing of applications takes approximately two weeks. Once approved, staff conducts a home assessment ta determine client needs. The program focuses on minor home repair, with emphasis on health and safety concerns. Work requests are done by the Housing Repair staff, and in some cases contracted out depending on the type of service and workload. Clients are also referred to King County's Home Repair Program; Renton is one of its largest users. Tim reviewed the 2008 Community Development Block Grant(CDBG)contract goals and performance. The number of people being served and service units performed is well exceeding projected goals. 3. Status of Fundinq Recommendation and Uadate on Proprams: ■ Meals on Wheels is going from two meals a day to one until the end of the year. Karen will be looking to see how many Renton residents utilize the service twice a day to determine if we need to assist in filling the gap. ■ Senior Services did not get the contract for the Community Dining Program. There will be some type of ineal program at the senior center, but not sure what it will be at this point. ■ The Ukrainian Community Center received funding for doing cross-cultural minority meals. ■ Catholic Community Services is experiencing problems. They're not receiving some of the grants they are applying for and are seeing their funding decreased by some of their funders. 4. Kinq Countv Budaet Cuts: • Family planning will be discontinued at the Renton Public Health Center on NE 4th and they will be consolidating at the location in Kent. The Renton Clinic serves 1778 Renton families. ■ King County Sexual Assault Resource Center(KCSARC)funding was cut by one-half million less. King County and Washington State are their big funders. KCSARC intends to lobby the state for a stable funding source on behalf of all human services. ■ Renton Area Youth Services (RAYS)will be receiving $200,000 less. 5. Renton's 2009 fundina recommendations: Recommendations are moving forward through the Council process. 6. Third Quarter Performance Reaort: See Handout. 7. Other: ■ Karen will be out of the office from November 14-December 14, 2008. Dianne will attend the Advisory Board meeting next month. ■ Carol Allread, the new Human Services Administrative Secretary, starts Friday, October 24. ■ The retreaUworkshop will be postponed until January 2009. • Topics for the November Advisory Board meeting: King County Budget Cuts.
