Elizabeth Stevens 2. Review of Electronic Application for 2010/2011 Fundin�Cvcle: Karen
reviewed the proposed application that will be used by the majority of cities
in King County. Because it is a common application for 20 cities, city specific

this application to represent Commission/Committee interests. The goal of
Samantha Williams the joint application is to make it easier for agencies applying for funds.
They will now only have to submit one application electronically.

3. Apqroval of Bvlaws: Housekeeping changes to the bylaws were presented.
Karen Bergsvik The three absences policy was brought up by Charlie. Charlie stated that

meeting. A motion was made and seconded to invite the three committee
members who resigned to be reinstated as committee members and extend
an invitation to them to the lanuary meeting. After it was noted that there were only two open spots,
the motion was rescinded. Another motion was made to table the three absences discussion until the
January, 2010 meeting. Motion was seconded and passed 4-1 with one member abstaining. The
housekeeping changes would be discussed in February.
a. Quarterlv Performance Report: Dianne reviewed the Valley Cities domestic violence program that had
not met their goals for third quarter and the steps the agency has taken to address their lack of
referrals. The agency was not getting as many referrals from the Department of Social and Health
Services (DSHS) as they had hoped for. Staff has provided suggestions for contacts, for developing
relationships in Renton. Alicia commented that it takes time to grow a new program, and noted that
another non-profit has the contract with the Renton DSHS to provide domestic violence services to

their clients, but there are s� other referral avenues there. Other gestions were to attend the DV
task force, send a newsletter or email to agencies, get an article in the�enton Reporter, make flyers
available at DSHS, and contact the local churches.
5. Updates:
a) Visits to HealthPoint and Institute for Familv Development: Linda and Margie visited HealthPoint
along with staff. They thought the facility was nice with caring staff. There was some discussion
about whether the staff demographics matched those of the clients they were serving. Staff will
provide the demographic report for HealthPoint and Renton demographics for the January meeting.
The monitoring visit with Institute for Family Development went well.
b) Board Trainin�: There is no regularly scheduled meeting in December. Committee members are
requested to either attend the board training on November 30, or a social with the Park Board at
the Museum on December 8. The Board training will feature a speaker from the Seattle Foundation
about Healthy Communities, and the Park Board meeting will focus on the Museum master plan and
how they are planning to reach out and serve diverse populations. Carol will send out information
on dates/times, etc. Please let her know which one you are planning to attend.
c) Imt�lementation of Bud�et Cuts: Karen reviewed the budget impacts. Funding to agencies had not
been cut, but the Human Services operating budget was decreased. The handout is the staff
brainstorming session about the impacts, strategies and next steps. The $18,000 to the Renton
Emergency Assistance Program (REAP) contracted through The Renton Salvation Army is gone for
2010. City staff has done several fundraisers to raise funds for this program. Karen reviewed the
plans for online donations to community programs, that will be the same as the employee Renton
Gives program. People can choose to donate to REAP,the food bank, the scholarship program and
the Housing Repair Assistance Program.
d) Housin� Proiects in Renton Seekin�2010 Fundin�: The Habitat for Humanity project (La Fortuna)
was recommended for$500,000 of funding, and King County Housing Authority (Wonderland
Estates)$2,000,000. The Renton Housing Authority Project, while receiving favorable reviews, was
not recommended for funding, but included in a contingency plan should more funding become
available.
e) Communitv Supper for the Homeless: Karen gave an update on the planning efforts underway for
a community hot meal supper for the hungry and homeless. Hot meal programs draw other
services such as mobile healthcare, and social workers who connect the homeless with other
needed services. It will be at The Salvation Army building at 720 S. Tobin. Other churches will be
partners. This is a church initiative, with Captain Masango and Loren Lichty of New Life Church
being the facilitators. There is a meeting Thursday with interested churches. Frequency of the
program (daily, weekly) has not yet been established.
6. Food Drive: Renton City staff are doing a food drive to benefit The Renton Salvation Army Food Bank,
and Emergency Feeding program. The Community is invited to participate and may drop off food at fire
stations, the Community Center, and Renton Highlands library. The drive will run through December
18th.
