Updates a) 2010 Renton Budget: The City is moving to a zero-based budgeting approach and each department must submit bids to justify funding of programs. The current projected shortfall is $6 million. It has been stressed that we cannot continue to do business in the same way, that we must get creative, work with other departments and look for ways to increase efficiencies. Three budgets are to be submitted with each bid: a baseline budget offer (budget from 2009), an alternative budget offer(a reduced budget amount), and a mandatory/minimum budget offer, which represents minimum services. b) Summer Lunch Proqram: The number of sites providing lunches to children ages 1-18 has increased this year from four to 14. Dianne identified community partners and worked with the Renton School District to ensure that the sites were located throughout the City. Flyers are available and information is posted on the City of Renton website. c) Foreclosures in Renton: King County will apply via the state for federal money to assist with foreclosures. This assistance will concentrate on two zip codes that have high rates of loans at risk. The two zip codes are Federal Way and Skyway. Some of the money will be in the form of down payment assistance for buyers for homes that have already been in foreclosure.
