NATURE OF WORK - Under the direction of the Staff Services Supervisor, record and disseminate information within the department,to other agencies,and the public within the legal limitations of public disclosure and rights to privacy;provide various . services to the public; and conduct occasional searches of same sex inmates. Work is performed in an office environment, although shift work and weekend work are involved as well as work involving prisoner searches. HOURS OF WORK-The unit is staffed 24 hours, 7 days a week. Currently, Specialists work four 10-hour days with three days off. Shift rotation is based on seniority. REPRESENTATIVE ESSENTIAL DUTIES — Enter and update information into the law enforcement and state/national computer systems. Receive in-station & telephone inquiries; maintain confidential files, records and reports; prepare reports, statements, forms and letters on a personal computer; disseminate criminal and civil records; process and issue concealed pistol licenses and weapon purchases; process Renton Municipal Court warrants; monitor closed circuit security system; monitor city alarm system giving proper emergency notification; operate police radio console, teletype and access terminals; and maintain responsibility for the care, custody and search of same sex prisoners when required. (Representarive essential duties are intended to present a descriptive range of duries performed by employees in this classificarion and may not reflect all of the duties performed on the job) MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS - Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and two years of clerical experience involving extensive contact with the general public. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen, be able to read and write the English language, be at least (18) years of age, possess a high school diploma or GED certificate, and be able to work nights, weekends,and holidays. Must also be able to qualify for Access Certification. SELECTION PROCESS. - Applicants whose experience and qualifications most closely meet the requirements of the position will be invited to participate in a weighted and competirive selection process consisting of a spelling skills test requiring a minimum passing score of '70%, a keyboarding test requiring a net minimum 50 wpm to pass, and an oral board interview weighted at 100%of fmal score and requiring a minimum passing score of 70%to be placed on the eligibility list. Following the examinations, a one-year eligibility register will be established based on the rank order of passing scores. Candidates who are placed on the eligibility list may be considered for vacancies occurring within that time period and will be subject to further qualifying tests to include a polygraph examination, a psychological evaluation conducted by a psychologist, a stringent personal background investigation, a drug screen test, a medical examination, and a chief's interview.
