Work also involves responding to and dealing with man-made and natural disasters that pose a threat to public safety. The promotional examination is open to Lieutenants of the City of Renton Fire and Emergency Services Department who have been employed three consecutive years or more and who have held their present rank of Lieutenant for ELIGIBILITI' one year or more subsequent to their regulaz appointment,or would reach eligibility status by April l,2008,and REQUIREMENTS who meet the minimum job requirements as stated in the Fire Captain position description: Graduarion from a standard high school,vocational school or equivalent. Requirements per union contract,employees hired on or after January 1, 1997 are required to have a two-year fire science degree to qualify for the promotional examination for captain. A Written Examination will be held Wednesdav Anri19.2008. Additionally members will be assigned the subject matter for their take home project due on April 11, 2008 at 0800. The written exainination will be worth 40%of the candidate's final score. The Assessment Center will be held on Fridav Anril 11, 2008 and will consist of 3-parts weighted as follows: • Supervisory Simulation(20%) • Incident Management Simulation(25%weight) • Oral Presentation(15%weight) Highest rated score will have a value of 100%,with all other scores proportionately adjusted. A combined minimum score of 70%is reauired for placement on the eligibility list. David Daniels,Fire Chief/Emergency Services Administrator SUBJECT: Rule 13—Temporary and Provisional Appointments I would like to request that the commission modify the section of the Civil Service Commission that limits my ability to do temporary and provision appoinhnents for only four months. The next Battalion Chief process is an example. The next eligibility list will have at most two candidates, and we will have at least two vacancies due to retirement and I have no one eligible for permanent promotion for the next 17 months, and only one in that case, then 21 months before the next person is eligible. I would like to request the limit be up to 24 months. Rule 13.02 could read: 'A provisional appointment without examination may be made when there is no appropriate eligibility list orpersons on the list are not available or cannot be contacted when the appointing authority/chief certifies and supports with adequate facts that an emergency exists. The commission must approve the provisional appointment and the provisional appointee must meet the requirements and file application for examination for the class. The appointment may continue only until such time as the position can be filled from an eligibility list.
