Local 864 presented a letter requesting the Commission to seek legal opinion on whether the Fire Hazmat Lieutenant could be supervised by a non-uniformed position. The Civil Service Secretary, Eileen Flott, informed the Commission that it was the belief of management that it is managemenYs right to determine supervisors and that this is not a Commission issue. Chief Daniels also stated the same. The Commission determined and approved that this was not a Commission issue, and would not act on the request. The promotional examination is open to Firefighters of the City of Renton Fire and Emergency Services Department who have been employed three years with at least two of those years at journey level,or ELIGIBILITY would reach eligibility status by the current list expirotion date of May 26,2010, and who meet the REQUIREMENTS minimum job requirements as stated in the Fire Lieutenant position description: Graduation from a standard high school,vocational school or equivalent. Requirements per union contract,employees hired on or after January 1, 1997 are required to have a fire science certificate to qualify for the promotional examination for lieutenant. A Written Examination will be held Wednesdav. March 31. 2010 (morning and afternoon session). A minimum score of 70% will be required in the written examination to proceed to the Assessment Center. The written examination will be worth 40%of the candidate's final score. The Assessment Center will be held on Tuesdav Mav 11.2010.&/or Wednesdav Mav 12.2010, and will be worth 60% of the candidates final score. However, you will need a combined Assessment Center score of 70%to pass the Assessment Center portion. This will consist of the following three(3)equally weighted parts: • Supervisor Simulation • Incident Management Simulation(IMS) • Structured Interview The combined overall score(40%Written Exam and 60%Assessment Center)will require a minimum score of 70%for placement on the eligibility list. Candidates will be ranked on a two-year eligibility list EXAMINATION according to their total earned score, plus seniority points. An associate degree in Fire Science and college level personnel management courses preferred. Requirements per union contract,employees hired on or after January 1, 1997 are required to have a four-year degree, in addition to a two-year fire science degree,to qualify for the promotional examination for Battalion Chief/Safety Officer.
