CALL TO ORDER Tim Searing, Chair, called the November 20, 2007, meeting to order at 4:44 p.m. Tim welcomed everyone. In Attendance The following persons were present: Staff: Terry Higashiyama, Sandy Pilat, Bonnie Rerecich, Kelly Beymer, Jerry Rerecich, Peter Renner, Leslie Betlach Guests: Pete Maas, Zanetta Fontes Members: Tim Searing, Ron Regis, Cynthia Burns, Michael O'Donin, Troy Wigestrand, Larry Reymann, AI Dieckman II. APPROVAL OF AGENDA Tim inquired if there were any changes to the agenda. None were suggested. Michael O'Donin made a motion, seconded by Cynthia Burns to accept the agenda as presented. All were in favor, the November agenda was approved. III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Cynthia Burns made a motion seconded by Larry Reymann to approve the October minutes as written. All were in favor, motion carried, minutes approved. IV. CONSENT Park Rules and Regulations Zanetta Fontes, Assistant City Attorney, was present to explain the process of amending the current park rules and regulations. She indicated the task force first identified the items needing attention and moved some items around to more clearly segregate them in the right categories. One area of concern was the affixing of posters and handbills to cars and buildings (B. Criminal Violations, Section 1 Posting of Signs). It was agreed that section would be amended to include adding a notation to exclude flyers being put on cars, or on buildings, trees, etc. Michael O'Donin indicated the Board's goal was to have everyone visiting our parks to have a positive experience. Michael made a motion to concur with staff recommendation and approve recommended changes. Larry Reymann seconded the motion. All were in favor, motion carried. The amended park rules and regulations would be recommended to the City Council for review and acceptance in January. V. DISCUSSION/ACTION ITEMS Leslie Betlach, Parks Director, gave a PowerPoint presentation outlining the "Assets and Resources" of the City of Renton parks and recreation divisions. The presentation highlighted the number of parks, acreage, and variety of sites and their particular amenities. Additionally, our newest park, Heritage Park was showcased, as well as our newest program, the Volunteer Program. Community participation and partnerships have helped the Department enormously this year. VI. ADMINISTRATORS/DIRECTORS REPORT Terry Higashiyama, Administrator, gave an overview of the 2008 budget. She reviewed the highlights, challenges, and our current organizational chart. Each division director addressed the Board reviewing their respective division and the growth we have sustained in the last finro decades, the progress we have experienced, as well as challenges for the future. The Board members are committed to working with staff to identify the needs and how to accomplish our goals, whether it is a bond issue, levy or grants. Leslie Betlach and Todd Black will be working on a visioning process outline to present to the Board at the December meeting. VII. OTHER COMMUNICATION A Park Board Status Report and information regarding upcoming events was mailed to the members for their review and notification. There were no questions. VIII. NEW BUSINESS Agenda items for December would include review of the Capital Improvement Project Budget, annexation, and visioning. t ° City of Renton � �.r Park Board Minutes November 20, 2007 Page3of3 IX. ADJOURNMENT Cynthia Burns made a motion seconded by AI Dieckman to adjourn the meeting.
