ATTENDING: Members: Peter Hartley Tyler Morse Catherine Ploue-Smith Lynne Shioyama Staff: Bette Anderson, Library Director Linda Chanik, Secretary MINUTES 1. CALL TO ORDER: The November 8, 2007, meeting of the Library Board at the Renton Public Library began at 7:10 p.m. 2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA: Peter Hartley MOVED THAT THE AGENDA FOR November 8, 2007,be approved. SECONDED by Catherine Ploue-Smith. The motion CARRIED. 3. REVIEW OF MINLJTES: Peter Hartley MOVED THAT THE MINiJTES OF October 11, 2007, be approved. SECONDED by Catherine Ploue-Smith. The motion CARRIED. 4. PUBLIC COMMENT: None. 5. COMMLJNICATIONS: None. 6. FINANCIAL REPORT: The October 2007 Renton Public Library Expenditure Status Report was distributed to Board Members. Expenditures through September are on track at 83%of the annual budget. 7. MONTHLY REPORT: STATISTICS—The October 2007 Renton Public Library Statistics report was distributed to the Board. (A copy is attached to these minutes.) 8. OLD BUSINESS: MASTER PLAN—The Consultants are working on the final part of the Library Master Plan. We anticipate presenting the Plan to the Renton City Council early in 2008. BUDGET 2008—We were not able to secure all our requests for the 2008 budget. However, $22,000 has been added to internuttent salaries, and$50,000 has been added to library materials and supplies. AUDIO-VISUAL AREA—Staff has been clearing the area to make room for the new furniture. Six file cabinets were removed and the topographical maps relocated in the Pacific Northwest section. Storage shelving is being cut down and recycled to shelve audio-visual materials. ` � RENTON PUBLIC LI�ARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEET'�G—November 8, 2007 MEETING ROOM—Staff cleared the rnagazine room of most of the periodical back issues. This space will become the library's meeting room. Initially, it will be used for library sponsored programs only. BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS—Peter Hartley, Heather Nugent, and Catherine Ploue-Smith attended the second annual Boards and Commissions Training, "Leading for the Future", offered by the City of Renton Community Services Department on Monday, October 29,2007. The Library Director distributed information that was presented at the meeting. PETTIGREW STATUE—The company,ArtTech, is repairing the `Boy Reading' statue that was damaged by a car last summer. They will re-install the statue when repairs are completed. COMPUTERS—Two new computers are scheduled for the Young Adult section, and the first of ten Thin Client Computers has been installed. 9. NEW BUSINESS: TALK TIME—Lynn and Steve Colwell have volunteered to conduct the library's first Talk Time series beginning the week of January 8, 2008. Talk Time is a facilitated discussion session designed to give people learning English an opportunity to practice their new language. WEB PAGE—Board Members discussed having their pictures and contact information included on the Board page of the Library's website. CROSS-USE—The King County Library System(KCLS)Director, Bill Ptacek, has asked the City to work with them in devising a method that does not rely on the services of a paid consultant for periodically up-dating the Cross Use Study. The immediate concern is the impact the Benson Hill annexation will have on the rate of cross-use between the two library systems. 10.
