CI1Y OF RENTON .1AN 1 5�2009 "�' CITY OF RENTON RECEIVED MINUTES ��TY CLERK'S OFFICE ADVISORY COMMISSION ON DIVERSITY December 10, 2008 Commissioners: Antonio Cube Sandel Demastus Jennifer Knickerbocker Raymond Lamb Vern Nichols Charles Thomas Lari White Absent: Serena Aquino Visitor: Gene GreccoStoliesSimile Staff: Gloria Gamba Jerry Rerecich "�' CALL TO ORDER: Sandel Demastus, Chair, called the meeting to order at 6:35 p.m. APPROVAL OF AGENDA: Charles Thomas made a motion to approve the December 10, 2008, agenda as written. Second by Antonio Cube. Motion carried. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Charles Thomas made a motion to approve the November 12, 2008, minutes as written. Second by Vern Nichols. Motion carried. AUDIENCE COMMENTS: Gene GreccoStoliesSimile introduced himself and is interested in joining the Commission. Gloria Gamba will send him an application. OLD BUSINESS: Jerry Rerecich has been in contact with Kent, Tukwila, and Federal Way to determine their interest in having a joint workshop in early March to discuss the goals and responsibilities of South King County Diversity Commissions. It was agreed that a facilitator would be needed, and it was suggested that the Commission invite Dean Radford, Renton Reporter, to attend. The following Commissioners agreed to plan,make arrangements, and give input on the agenda: Sandel Demastus, Lari White, Charles Thomas, and Jennifer Knickerbocker. At a future meeting, Mayor Denis Law and Terry Higashiyama, Community Services Administrator,may attend an Advisory Commission on Diversity's monthly meeting to give a summary of the Commission's expectations. � Advisory Commission on Diversit iutes ,� December 10,2008 �II�'' Page 2 of 2 NEW BUSINESS/OTHER COMMUNICATIONS: The responses from the nine candidates � for the vacant position on the Commission were read and reviewed. Four candidates, Barbara Clark-Elliot, Stan Kawamoto, Kathleen Booher, and Dina Davis were selected to be interviewed in January. All Commissioners ageed to participate in the interview process. ELECTION OF OFFICERS: Sandel Demastus made a motion to nominate Jennifer Knickerbocker for the Chair position. Second by Charles Thomas. Motion carried. Jennifer Knickerbocker made a motion to nominate Lari White for Vice Chair. Second by Vern Nichols. Motion carried. Sandel Demastus made a motion to nominate Vern Nichols for Secretary. Second by Charles Tnomas. Motioii carried. On behalf of the Commission, Jerry Rerecich expressed thanks to Sandel Demastus for her dedication in serving as Chair of the Commission. OTHER: Beginning in January 2009, the Commission will hold their monthly meetings at the Liberty Park Community Building, 1101 Bronson Way North, from 6:30 p.m.unti18:00 p.m. ADJOURNMENT: Vern Nichols made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:25 p.m. Second by Charles Thomas.
