As several developers are considering purchase of the property with a goal of retaining the Hendrix structure, it is reasonable to reinstate the Temporary Use Permit and extend it six months. Decision: Therefore, the Temporary Use Permit is valid through February J 7,2008. Should you wish to contact me regarding the extension of the Temporary Use Permit, contact Jennifer I-Ienning at (425) 430-7218. Neil Watts Development Services Director ------------------~----~~R··ENTON .. 1055 South Grady Way -Renton, Washington 98057 * This paper contains 50% recycled nIateriAl, 30% post consumer A Ii E ADO F T Ii E CUR \' I, Neil Watts Development Services Division 1055 South Grady Way Renton WA 98055 RE: Hendrix House Dear Mr. Watts, -... DEVELOPMENT SERVICES CITY OF RENTON AUG 07 2007 R'ECEIVED August 2, 2007 I am writing at the recommendation of Jennifer Henning to request reinstatement of the Temporary Use Permit to allow additional time to prepare the Conditional Use Permit. Since being granted the Temporary Use Pennit we have moved the Hendrix House to the site at 3614 NE 4th, built a foundation onto which the house has been set, reattached the roof to the main structure of the house, and put on a new layer of roofing material to protect the house. We also paid for a new fire hydrant that was installed by the city. The mobile home park situated on the property has been cleaned up, overgrown foliage removed, and criminal activity has been eliminated. I have been in discussions with developers interested investing in the property in order to achieve its highest and best use. One such negotiation resulted in an option to purchase the property t with a caveat that the Hendrix House remain in place and be maintained in perpetuity. The option expired unexercised at the end of 2006. Prior to that time J had also been in discussions with JayMarc Development of Renton, and when the earlier option expired those discussions became more serious. JayMarc has been working with their architects to come up with some feasibility studies, and they plan to report back to me with their findings in the near future. At least some of the discussion has considered moving the Hendrix House to a front comer of the subject property in order to better accommodate commercial structures at the front of the site. At present the house sits front and center art the site. Although no commitments have been made, I have been given assurances that any movement of the house would be undertaken as part of the larger project and would be handled professionally by JayMarc. In that the possibility exists for moving the house, as well as development of the balance of the site, it seems prudent to wrap the Conditional Use planning into the overall plans for the property. I thank you for your consideration of this request. . .'.' Jimi Hendrix House. oeVELOPMENT PLANNING CITY OF RENTON JUN :~ 9 2005 RECEIVED This temporary use permit is sought to relocate Jimi Hendrix's childhood home to Renton, Wa, onto privately owned property across the street from the Greenwood Memorial Cemetery, Jimi's final resting place. This is a small home, no larger than 1500 square feet. Although the entire commercial zoned parcel is about 3.4 acres, the portion of the site to be used for the tempoary use will be only about 1500 square feet in size. The address of the site is 3612 NE 4th. Adjacent parcels are also zoned commercial, or multifamily. The existing use of the 3.4 acre parcel is as a mobile home park. Only one of the mobile homes in the 49 unit park will be affected by the temporary use, and that is a mobile home that will be owned by the applicant. No displacement of any home owned by a tenant is anticipated for this temporary use. TIle site is flat and appears to have adequate drainage. There is no anticipation of a need to relocate any utilitie!ii or create any off-site improvements to accommodate this temporary use. There will likely be a new foundation poured to matl;h the footprint of the Hendrix House, and ' that will replace any existing foundation that may exist for the mobile home currently in the area proposed for the temporary use. Market value of the new foundation is estimated to be about $10,000. No trees will be removed in this plan. No job shacks, sheds, trailers, nor model homes are involved. 6. Construction Mitigation. It is anticipated that movement of the house to the property would take place late at night to avoid any traffic problems. We will work in conjunction with the City of Renton to minimize any adverse impacts. The existing mobile home will either be relocated to another site within the park, or will be removed in parts during normal business hours. Pouring of the new foundation will take place during norma] business hours. Although it has not been completely determined, the desired time for moving the house to the site would be around August 15, with the construction of the new foundation to be completed in the period two weeks prior to the date, so that the foundation is ready to have the house moved onto it. -~ITY OF RENTON 1055 S.
