SENIOR SERVtCES CODRDINATOR`S REPCIRT—SFrawn Daly
• Today started off as a sad day. You may or may not heard lohn Springer passed away on Friday,
October 15. He was called, "dancing 1ohn1" At ali the functians he wau(d be dancing and acting a litt(e crazy;
he was always having fun. He was a good person and wi(I be missed.
• Shawn intraduced Peggy Budzui an applicant applying for the open position on the Advisory Board.
She is attending the required meeting priar to being interviewed. Four applicants to be interviewed on
Manday, Qctober 25. Interview committee consists of Elaine Koehler, Mary Ann Ellingson, and Mary Brown.
lnterviewees to be at the Seniar Center at 8:45 a.m.; wi!! go through procedures, ques#ions and plans for the
day. First interview at 9:3Q a.m. and be finished by 32:00 noan
• Nat sure what we are going to da with Edie-Mae �awyer's position. Plan talking to her husband Gene
today on his thoughts and perspective an the matter. C}ne thing I'm looking at and need your support is ta use
her as an ex-officio member. She woufd be invited to every meeting, but daes not have a vate.
• Annual RSVP recognitian breakfast on Tuesday, October 19, at Emerald Downs, starting at 8:30 a.m.
There is a chance one of our senior will be honared.
• Saturday, October 16, the city employees Local 2170 union, served approximately 150 free pancake
breakfasts.
• The last two weeks, now going on the third week, Kathie has not been at the frant desk. Kathie had
what they call a strangled hernia; she had surgery for that; during that process found out she had pneumonia.
• Saturday, Octaber 16, was a busy day with two functions. Traditionally we only do one function. We
had a memorial far lohn Giuliani that started at noon. John was born in the 2Q's here in Rentan; active in the
Senior Center; he was known for his talking...he would go to the coffee bar and be nan-stop talking, no-one
else cauld get a ward in.
• Thanksgiving Day is Novernber 25; at the next meeting f wili ask far financial he(p. It's a great
event ca-sponsored with the Renton Rotary (they set up in the morning, pravide, cook and serve al1 the food
with their 50 volunfieers}, and the City of Renton employees (30 volunteers), help with the sacial games.
This is a free event serving 250 seniors.

• Craft Bazaar is Nauember 6, in the past we rented tables and had maintenance bring tables over fram
other facilities. Due ta the econamy, and to keep this event, we downsized utiliring tables on hand.
• 8reakfast with Santa has been eliminated fram the budget.
RECREATtON DIRECTOR'S REPt�RT—Tim Wiiliams
• Tim explained Parks hired an consultants to do a Park and Recreationa( Open Space Master Pian.
Each member received a flyer to jain in the conversation and plan the future of Renton's parks, recreation
services, open spaces and natural resources at two workshops; one on Wednesday, Octaber 27, at the
Cascade Elementary School Cafeteria fram 6:00-8:00 p.m.; the other on Thursday, November 4, at the Renton
Comrnunity Center Banquet Room from 6:OQ-$:00 p.m.
• Terry Higashiyama is back and in full gear.
* Mayor introduces his budget at the City Gounci) meeting tonight; open to the public. Na praposed cuts
at all this year for Senior Services.
• Fa11 back with time change on Navember 7.

• New Tai Chi instructor starts on Tuesday, 10/19.
• Celebrate Mikey Mantle's birthday Luncheon with a Home Run Derby (three strikes, you're aut; home
run nets you a prize� on Wed. 10/20 at 11.:00 A.M.
� Tacoma Holiday Food $c Gift Festival trip is Thursday, 14/21, from 9:30-4:30 P.M.
• Chimposium trip to Centra! Washington University on Wed. 1Q/20 from 8.30-4:00 P.M. —a sanctuary
for chimpanZees that learned American Sign Language.
• Financial Workshop—Tax Issues for Retirees on Monday, 10i25 from 9:30-11:00 A.M.
• A presentatian on Socia) Security 101, Thursday, 1Qf 26, from 12:30-2:00 P.M.
President pro tem, Douglas Gregory, adjourned the meeting at 10:55 a.m.
