President pro tem, Douglas Gregory, called the meeting to order at 10:01 A.M. Attendance was taken. Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as read. In response to Ben Cheney's question on the usage of president pro tem, Marjorie Cochran-Reep read the following: Pro tem ... "He is the president pro tem —designated to act as consul—"(Latin, for the time being.) An abbreviation used for pro tempore. Latin for "temporary or provisional." A person who acts as a temporary substitute serves "pro tem." TREASUER'S REPORT—Treasurer, Rose Warren, reported the following: Bank Statement $12,963.63 Emergency Fund 203.25 Petty Cash 20.23 Forgotten Badge Fund 6.00 SENIOR SERVICES COORDINATOR'S REPORT—Shawn Daly • Shawn introduced Shirley Anderson, RCC Manager. Shawn and Shirley are doing a job sharing work shop; learning other employee's jobs. One of the things Tim did when he came here is he believed in knowing other peoples job; and, he's right, we don't know. I will be spending time at the Community Center and Shirley here at the Senior Center. • Michael Nolan, Facilities Coordinator, gave a presentation and a handout to each board member showing program elements for remodeling and construction of the Senior Center lounge/library. Library will have new carpet, paint, furniture, cabinets for storage, magazine/pamphlet racks, N entertainment center, replace ceiling light fixtures, gas/electric fireplace insert; etc. • Jane Goodwin passed away; family members asked in lieu of flowers donations made to the Renton Senior Center. Five checks received totaling$100. • Short on our BINGO gifts. We traditionally come to the committee twice a year requesting$450 for our BINGO program. Every year the Cugini family donates $2,000 in honor of Emma Cugini with the stipulation it be used for the BINGO program. I'm requesting a check for$450 made out to Safeway. It was moved by Ben Cheney and second by Marge Cochran-Reep. Motion carried. • Update on Tax Assistance for this past year; served 301 participants. • With the death of Jane Goodwin there is a opening on the committee; at the next meeting talk about either down-sizing or remaining with 15 committee members. • Meeting tomorrow with Nutrition/Senior Services to find out if they are interested in helping with Renton River Days serving meals. • Footcare update—new provider Karen's Footcare is doing very well; have not received one complaint since January. Fees were reduced from $30 to $27; city receives $2 per footcare appointment. r complaint since January. There were about 70 athletes competing in track and field, cycling and soccer. I'll have Sean at the next meeting give a recap. • Coffee bar door has been repainted. • Problem in the men's restroom urinals; men going more on the floor then in the urinals. Planning to put something on the wall for them to pay attention too; for example, a custodian came up with, "We aim to please, so please aim." • New badges for the committee members will be discussed at the next meeting. RECREATION DIRECTOR'S REPORT—Tim Williams � Handed out a copy of a new policy that will go to Council on June 21. After a tragic accident on the Cedar River Trail that involved a collision between a bicyclist and a pedestrian, the City of Renton launched a comprehensive program to enhance overall safety in its trails; reduced speed limits;trail striping, addi- tional signage and Police to get tough on offenders. RECREATION COORDINATOR—Debbie Little • Summertime Blooms...Lowes donating pts, potting soil and flowers for seniors to plant a pot to take home. Wednesday, 6/2, from 10:00-1:OOpm • Trip to Cirque Du Soleil and dinner at any Redmond Towne Center restaurant. Wed., 6/9, 4-11pm. , • Thursday dance with Bill Bennett has a charge of$1; no complaints. • Receive a Regional Reduced Fare Permit/Orca Card on June 15. $3 fee. • Cooking w/Cher our Nutrition Site Manager with a degree in culinary art. Dinner will be a Morrocan Cuisine: Chicken Tangine on 6/15 from 1:30-4:30 pm. • Trip to a Hutterite Colony, a German settlement that clings to its unique religious/cultural traditions. Tour a school, library, chapel, community kitchen and treated to an authentic German meal. 6/16 from 7:20-7:OOpm. • Father's Day Car Race Luncheon on 6/18 from 11:30-12:00 noon.
