President pro tem, Douglas Gregory, called the meeting to order at 10:00 A.M. Attendance was taken.
Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as corrected.
TREASURER'S REPORT—Treasurer, Rose Warren, reported the following:

SENIOR SERVICES COORDINATOR'S REPORT—Shawn Dal _

• Shawn introduced Kris Stimpson, Recreation S�er-�cisor, at the RCC.
• Asking Advisory Board to sponsor the following event: a Friday night movie at the Renton
Senior Center. The city does a movie series of six, sponsored by Sam's Club, with a 35 foot screen, at
Liberty Park on Friday nights; drawing 200-500 people. Best time for us is in conjunction with Renton River
Days, Friday,July�. Movie selected is, "The Blind Side," based on a true story about an African American
football player, raised by a white family and goes on to be a pro football player. Movie will begin at 9:00
�m. This event will be a football theme starting with a tailgate party at 7:00 p.m.; music playing; games on
bocce court; serve hot dogs, pop and chips; "free of charge." We have tremendous grounds for this event
and one goal is to draw not only seniors but younger people to understand what we have to offer.
Requesting$500 to cover costs. It was moved by Mary Brown, seconded by Mary Burns to sponsor and
donate.$500 to highlight good wiN and availability to the Senior Center. Motion Carried.
• Renton River Days senior picnic is July 22, at RCC;July 23 will be our movie, open to the public;
July 24 is the Lions' Club breakfast, also open to the public.
• Volunteers are needed for a Steering Committee. Shawn turned it over to Kris Stimpson. Depart
ment is working on a Parks,Trail, Recreation, Open Space Planning proposal. It gives us a direction where
we are going; preserves park land and based on where the community thinks we should go. We would like
someone from the senior center who is interested in being on the committee; meet six times for approxi-
mately two hours to help guide and use your input on where you want the city to go. Committee starting
mid-May.
• Spoke a little about Jo Matas with the Newcomer's Hour. That has worked out great! Three years
ago Newcomer's Hour started. Once a month there is a set time, in the brochure, for new people to come
and learn about all the programs and activities available. Staff decided a volunteer could help and promote
the senior center. Jo's name came up and is phenomenal!!
• April 29th is the Senior Volunteer Party restricted to CommissidR� and Committees. This committee
should have received an invitation, if not let me know and I will see you get one.
• Wednesday, April 28, is "National Say Hi Day." With paper and pencil in hand, every time you say
"hi"to another senior, have them sign their name. The person with the most names by lunch will get a
prize. This is another way to enjoy and meet new people.
� Fern Ziebell requested a report on Edie-Mae Lawyer. Debbie said Kathy Svedin, our secretary, went
to Harborview Hospital on Friday, Edie-Mae's birthday, and spent two and a half hours, reading and talking
to her; still in a coma, unconscious and periods of time when restless. She was moved to Auburn but
unable to take her;they are not equipped to handle patients needing restraints. Her daughter Teresa is
coming from Rhode Island and has the power to make decisions. Keep prayers coming.
• Senior Stage Revue is May 13, 1:00 pm and May 14, 7:00 pm. Requesting helpers. Need ticket
takers, ushers, etc. Sign-up today or by the next meeting in May.
RECREATION COORDINATOR—Debbie Little
• Beginning Hula Class starts on 4/20 at 9:00 a.m. with a new nationally known instructor.
• Representative from Metro will be available on Tuesday, 4/20, from 11:00-12:00 noon,to purchase
a Regional Reduced Fare Permit to accompany your ORCA card. ORCA cards are $5; both are$8.
• Trip to Watson's Greenhouse and Tacoma Old Spaghetti Factory on 4/21.
• Housing Fair, Friday, 4/23, from 10-12:00 p.m..
• Trip near Woodland, Vancouver area to the Lilac Gardens and then tour the only operating Grist Mill
left in the state that produces flour and cornmeal.
• Twenty people will travel to "Portland On The Amtrak Train," 4/28 from 7:00 a.m.to 9:30 p.m.
• In-house Pool Tournament 4/29.
• Kentucky Derby Luncheon, 4/30. Races will start at 11:15 a.m.
COMMENTS:
Rosie Warren—Shawn and I were talking the other day discussing the bank signatures, being that Edie-Mae
is sick. Shawn was thinking and I agree with him to get a fourth person on the bank account in case you
(Doug) or I get sick. President pro tem Doug Gregory agreed and thought she may have to be taken off
completely. Shawn would prefer not taking her name off at this time. Question from Shawn to Rosie is to
check with the bank and see if a fourth signature is possible and if so, add Elaine Koehler, former Treasurer.
It's good to have that extra signature on there. There is times when we need a check and if you are back
east, for example,then we are in a problem.
The meeting was adjourned by President pro tem, Douglas Gregory, at 10:50 a.m.
