MEMBERS PRESENT: Mary Brown, Mary Burns-Haley, Ben Cheney, Marge Cochran-Reep, Eric

President, Edie-Mae Lawyer, called the meeting to order at 10:05 A.M. Attendance was taken.
Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as corrected.
SENIOR SERVICES COORDINATOR'S REPORT—Shawn Daly
� Patio finished; brick work was completed this past Friday and looks real good.
• Lions Club would like to put a "drop box" here at the senior center for eye glasses, hearing
aids and cell phones. In the past, we had a small cardboard box that has been in the Library. This
particular "drop box" is a large container; looks like a conve�ted newspaper box. Question is where
to put this container and if we allow this,then do we allow all other service organizations to do
something similar? Discussion followed. Moved by Ben Cheney and seconded by Mary Brown to
keep the small cardboard box. Motion carried.
• We have an increasing amount of difficulty in providing space for different retirement
groups here at the senior center. Berniece Hoggard, our previous Director, made space available
for our retirement groups almost every day of the week. This makes Debbie's job real hard when a
room is tied up once a month on a different day; it precludes from doing ongoing activities or
classes on a set schedule with that glitch in the schedule. What is our focus; provide space for the
retirement groups or for recreational activities? Staff agreed primary responsibility is to provide
recreational activities for everyone, not so much particular meetings. Letters were sent out last
week to each retirement group and all groups will be consolidated to Fridays. Example; if they
meet on the first Monday of the month they will meet on the first Friday of the month. Board
meetings and regular meetings must be scheduled during the three and a half hours allotted to
them. Retirement groups must respond by September first, if they want to continue using the
space, which is rent free. This may not work for each group, but will give them ample time to find
another location.
• River Days set for July 22"d at the Renton Community Center.
• Tax appointments...busiest site with four tax preparers once a week on Thursdays; filled-up
two weeks ago; sending people elsewhere.
• Karen Popelton our new footcare provider has been on-the-job for two weeks and so far
only heard good things.
• Saturday, March 13, was the Annual Knights of Columbus breakfast.
• Shawn Daly attending Council Meeting tonight to honor the Special Population program
,
finishing second in the "Winte�r Games Basketball Tournament." Sean"Zfaggett's team competed
and played the Championship game against a team with the center standing seven foot four.
• Lady scheduled meeting with Shawn for a Grant Program to try to introduce different
cultures into our society. This Grant involves the Russian Elder population. Lady brought four
Russian Elders to tour the senior facility; goal is to get them involved in the program.
RECREATION COORDINATOR— Debbie Little
• New fitness attendant downstairs today by the name of Erin. This is our third attendant in
the six munths since opening. During March orientation will continue on Monday and Wednesday from
9:00-3:00 PM. In April orientation will be on Wednesday and Thursday.
• Debbie went over all programs for the next two weeks.
• New Director replacing Jerry Rerecich should be on board by next meeting. Reception and
tour of fiacilities will take place today.
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS:
Mary Ann Ellingson ..Stretch & Balance class is too successful. If you want a two pound weight be
at center half an hour early. Stretched to the point there is not enough equipment. Debbie will
purchase three and four pound weights.
Mary Burns-Haley... Upset about Strip Club and what bugs the heck out of her is that she watches City
Council meetings and tries to keep her ear peeled and this is the first I heard about it and it's been in the
works over a year. It raises my dander. Where do I find out about it? Edie-Mae thinks that meeting is
tonight on our opinion. Our opinion on what? How to change the rules? It's already a done deal. I was
perturbed about the fact the wool has been pulled over my eyes. I don't much like that. �
Ben Cheney... I was walking my dog, as t do quite often. I was dismayed to come by the building by
the Library to find three Mayflower trucks,with their crew, moving out of that building when the
city hasn't got enough money to sustain all the workers, cutting hours back and laying off people. I
don't expect anyone to comment on it because they don't want their name on it. I think it was
poor planning, at this point and time, on the part of the city, at our expense.
Douglas Gregory...What is going on with the picnic table by the bocce ball court? Shawn said it is being
refinished and the two benches were funded by the Sons of Italy. Plaque imbedded in the concrete be-
tween the two benches. Shawn, when the center is closed for repair could you put on your list the outside
boards are getting bare on low half, paint peeling off especially on south, southwest side of building.
President, Edie-Mae Lawyer, adjourned the meeting at 10:55 A.M.
