HomeMy WebLinkAboutContractf January 1,2002 • • -Page 1 of 3 CAG-00-108 AN AGREEMENT BETWEEN COMMUNITIES IN SCHOOLS OF RENTON THE CITY OF RENTON, AND THE RENTON SCHOOL DISTRICT This agreement is made and entered into on January 1, 2002,between the Renton School District (the School District), the City of Renton (the City), and Communities in Schools of Renton (CISR). Whereas, the School District is committed to establishing programs and efforts with other public and private entities to address the needs of children that affect the provision of effective public education; and Whereas, the City is committed to developing and supporting programs and efforts with other public and private entities to benefit children and their families in the community; and Whereas, CISR was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1995, and is governed by a Board of Directors who represent the City, the School District,business, residents and other service organizations in the Community; and Whereas,the purposes of CISR are to: 1. Provide an inclusive process for continuing coordination of community, social, health and volunteer services for the benefit of youth and their families. 2. Support the School District site-based centers for interactive services and opportunities. 3. Increase family access to community family support systems so students come to school healthy and ready to learn. 4. Encourage community involvement, and improve linkages made with support agencies and business, and increase pride taken in neighborhood schools. 5. Establish business and community involvement as role models, tutors and mentors; and Whereas, since 1995, the City, the School District and CISR have entered into a contractual agreement whereby the City and School District provide annual financial and in-kind support to CISR; and Whereas,it is necessary to amend the existing agreement to reflect necessary changes in financial and in-kind support from both the City and the School District; and Whereas, the CISR Board of Directors has authorized its Chair to execute this agreement; Now, therefore,in consideration of these commitments and considerations, the parties agree as follows: I. GENERAL PROVISION OF THE AGREEMENT A. The purpose of this agreement is to establish the financial and in-kind commitments made by the Renton School District and the City of Renton. 1 i January 1,2002 • • -Page 2 of 3 B. This agreement shall be for the period commencing on January 1, 2002 and ending December 31, 2002, and shall replace any previous agreements between these three parties. This agreement shall be extended automatically year to year. C. Any party may terminate this agreement by giving 90 days written notice to all parties involved. D. The CISR Board of Directors shall meet at least quarterly and provide an annual report to the City and the School District. E. All parties shall act in good faith and shall carry out the terms of this agreement as expeditiously as possible. II. AUTHORITIES AND DUTIES The City of Renton and the Renton School District will maintain representation on the CISR Board of Directors to assist with the development of bylaws and operating procedures for the Communities In Schools of Renton organization as well as to participate in the ongoing governance as specified in the bylaws. III. FINANCIAL COMMITMENT This agreement establishes that: A. The Renton School District will provide $25,000 to support the Communities In Schools of Renton budget. B. The City of Renton will provide $35,500 to support the Communities In Schools of Renton budget. It is understood that this amount includes support for lease payments CISR is obligated to pay to the City in exchange for office space in City Hall (per a separate lease agreement) and support for the cost of payroll services. This financial support will increase commensurate with increases in the lease and/or payroll services. IV. IN-KIND SUPPORT The City of Renton and the Renton School District will share in the costs of operating the Communities In Schools of Renton organization by providing in-kind support. This support includes, but is not limited to the following: A. The City of Renton will provide a share of mailing, printing, and copying services. It will provide CISR staff with office supplies, furniture and telecommunications services. B. Renton School District will provide a share of mailing, printing, and copying services. It will provide CISR staff with office supplies, furniture, telecommunications services, and office space. The Renton School District will also provide staff support in areas such as grant writing and volunteer coordination as agreed upon with CISR. V. OTHER I January 1,2002 'Page 3 of 3 Communities In Schools of Renton's Board of Directors and Executive Director will work to secure on-going financial resources from businesses, corporations, private foundations and federal, state, and local grantors. CISR agrees to also pursue any local, state and national Communities In Schools fundraising projects. VI.
