Items Discussed:
●Show of hands on who approves of jet traffic at Renton Airport.
●KCIA advisory, status of construction activities; night closures finished, will be some daytime closures.
●Bird strike on Medivac landing at 2 a.m.— Safety issue, potentially serious.
●FAA visited Renton Airport—good airport overall; standardizing tower communications – action item.
●Capital Projects.
►AP layout plan noise contours – within the airport boundaries. Logorhythmic scales over 24 hours – federal
program.
►AP entrance rehab – statue free to city from Museum of Flight (donation).
►Airside/Landside separation (security gates) – contractor difficulties, tenant/user access difficulties.
►Quonset Hut – 1-2 punch list items left on project.
►Seaplane dredging project – hired a consultant; Cedar has huge silt deposits this month; anticipate dredging
next year if permit obtained. Water depth is safety issue.
►Sam Chastain trail – $5-6M state and federal grants, hoping city will eventually pay $1M portion. Will
provide salmon habitat.
●November 9 Meeting with Mercer Island Mayor, council member, city manager, deputy mayor.
►Problem with low overflights over island.
►Renton Airport manager briefed Mercer Island on City of Renton’s plans for airport.
►Want Mercer Island to partner with Renton to get new precision approach system to get E. Channel
departures/arrivals rather than over the top of Mercer Island.
►$300K for consultant to do work for precision approach FAA Approval and market new technology to
airport users, potential tenants.
●Airport Open House Meeting.
►Consultant is helping develop public outreach, decided on city-wide meeting.
►November 21, 7-8:30 p.m. Renton High School Cafeteria.
►Advertised in “City Source” insert in Renton Reporter.
►RAAC Members expected to attend and participate in conversations.
►Stations will be set up with different topics.
►RAAC members are to arrive 15 minutes early.
Decisions/Recommendations:
Councilmember Palmer recommended having a Mercer Island RAAC member.
