After introductions, she gave an overview of her job as a Program Coordinator. She develops community classes and recreation programs. This includes handling the media and marketing for the various arts and recreation events and programs for all age groups. Renton uses a cost recovery model formula that requires all adult programs to be 100%cost recovered and youth programs to be at least 30%. She mentioned that some classes fill fast, i.e., "Art of Nature Camp"and the "Cartoon-a-versity" and are very popular. The RMAC could be helpful by collaborating on specialty classes where there is a demand and a market. It is possible to identify the class as being brought to the public by the RMAC. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: COMMISSIONER BRITT MCKENZIE PRESENTED THE MINUTES FOR JUNE. THERE WERE NO COMMENTS OR CORRECTIONS. DENISE ZUILLIG MOVED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES AND IT WAS SECONDED BY JARIS ENGLISH. MOTION CARRIED. CORRESPONDENCE AND ANNOUNCEMENTS: Jennifer Davis Hayes passed around the correspondence folder for individual review. OLD BUSINESS: Action Item List Arts Commission Committees: 4 Cows—The selection committee reviewed the proposals from three candidates and selected Team Sisko. The selection was based on technical ability, whimsical concepts, and willingness to develop them with the RMAC and the neighborhood group. DENISE ZULLIG MOVED TO ACCEPT THE COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION. MOTION WAS SECONDED BY EVELYN REINGOLD. MOTIONED CARRIED. Staff member Jennifer Davis will continue the award process and release a contract to Team Sisko. • � r � Renton Municipal Arts Commission Minutes Page 2 of 3 January 3,2012 ' Communications/Marketine—Jaris English has submitted herfirst article to the Renton Reporterto introduce herself and her blog. Doug Kyes will be the focus of her next blog. laris needs more stories that feature local artists. Ad Hoc Committees: , Fall Arts Eauinox-The event is scheduled for September 20,6-8 pm at Renton Technical College Technology Resource Building. The next planning meeting is Tuesday,luly 10, 2012. Renton River Davs Booth- VJ Orunda purchased 650 assorted paper masks for the RMAC booth and preliminary testing found them to be fun to decorate. The Toss-Across game will use RMAC logos and participants will sign-up and also be eligible for raffle tickets and prizes. Bill Huls is finalizing the prizes. More volunteers will be recruited from the Teen Summer Musical Program so that two persons will be at the booth during each shift. Doug Kyes suggested to make copies of his coloring book of Renton public art available for the booth. VJ Orduna will be res onsible for the set u on Fri p p day and the tear down on Sunday. Art Curators—The committee met and assessed the public art located on all seven floors at City Hall and the art inventory in storage there. New plaques are recommended for most of the items and $700 is requested for this from the Committee Projects and Master Plan Implementation funds. Small Grants Review Team—Renton River Days is a good opportunity to educate the community about the small grant applications and the process. The RMAC Executive Committee will review the applications and the voting will be done by e-mail. Three applications have been received to date. Ever�reen Citv Ballet- requested RMAC to"Fund a Panel"of a retractable wall at their Black Box Theatre. DOUG KYES MOVED THAT$500 BE ALLOCATED TO THE EVERGREEN BALLET FOR A PANEL. THE $500 DONATION IS ATTHE PRINCIPAL DONOR LEVEL. THE MOTION WAS SECONDED BY DENISE ZULLIG. MOTION CARRIED. Allocations for RMAC Committee Proiects and Master Plan Implementation - Completion of PAIR website $300 Fall Equinox 750 CVI 250 Plaques 700 Total $2000 THE ALLOCATION F 0 $2000 FOR RMAC COMMITTEE PROJECTS WAS MOVED BY PETER HARTLEY AND SECONDED BY NATALIE GRESS. MOTION WAS CARRIED. Bravo Award—Kevin Kaiser,Artistic/Executive Director, Evergreen City Ballet was nominated for the Bravo Award. Doug Kyes also suggested Mike Simpson, Director, Renton Community Concert Band. Doug Kyes,Jaris English, and Paul Hebron will be the committee to assure that the two nominees meet the criteria for the award. Doug Kyes will draw a portrait for the awardees and notes on their accomplishments will be written by the committee. The awards could be presented at the City Council and given to the awardees at the Fall Equinox. Creative Vitalitv Index(CVI)Grant - The RMAC was selected as a pilot project location by the Washington State Arts Commission to create a Creative Vitality Index(CVI)for Renton which will allow RMAC to collect and use data on the arts to be more effective advocates. The grant includes access to data, a consultant to assist in the work,training and $1,000 for messaging and facilitation expenses. � � * • ' Renton Municipal Arts Commission Minutes Page 3 af 3 lanuary 3,2012 Paul Hebron, Ben Andrews, Britt McKenzie,Susanna Williams(Rentan Technical College), Liz Stewart (Renton Histary Museum),and possibility sameone from Allied Arts will form a working group to help guide the project. Conflict of Interest—Projects are starting to develop quickly and sometimes they can directly involve the talents and skills af RMAC members, as well as funding. We want ta be transparent and eliminate any possibility that a project involving RMAC members could be viewed as a conflict of interest. We are exploring if conflict of interest is written into our by-laws. Jennifer will review the city policy to determine what direction we need to take.
