Motion Carried. • Mayor Denis Law is scheduled to attend the February 6th Advisory Board meeting. Rest of the meeting was dedicated to Mary Burns-Haley and Douglas Gregory for their ser•✓ice. Shawn said, "Now the real reason we are here today. I have had an opportunity to work on this Committee every since i been here. A little history on the committee; when the building was buiit the Mayor decided the buiiding needed to be run by the senior pop!lation; not the paid staff. Tne Tirsi recommendation was to nave an Advisory Committee help with recommendations involving the Senior Center and senior citizens within the community. We have had a Committee every since day one. Mary Burns-Haley came in originaily as the secretary and did a tremendous job; because she was so dedicated she actually moved into the position and been on the Committee for over twenty years. The other member, Doug Gregory; Doug brought literally dozens of recommendations from the fountain to the River and didn't give up. I will miss that; him coming to me with his concerns and those concerns were justified. It's ironic that Mary and Doug are stepping down at the same time. Doug's father Lloyd Gregory was one of the original members on the Advisory Committee when the building was first built. Lloyd Gregory,Jim Denzer, Frank Cenkovich and Mary Burns-Haley were part of what I called the "Rat Pack". It really bothers me to lose these two people; I don't agree with them all the time but they both are willing to stand up and speak their piece. That's what this Committee is all about; they don't just sit back and say nothing. l want to personally thank them for everything they have done." Terry Higashiyama —This is very hard for Shawn and Debbie too;this is family here. Mary and I were saying we didn't want to count the many years we go back and have done things together as friends and fortunate to work together. It's like all things, good people make good things happen in this community and the two of you exemplify why that makes Renton such a special place because it's hard to measure all the impact that you would have on all the things you have done there's just no way there are so many branches and peopie that you have touched and made a difference. On behaif of all the Community Services we can oniy say thank you and say how much we love you and appreciate all that you have done; so,thank you very much. Shawn Daly--- "If I could take a moment to present this book of inemories. People on this Committee knew you only had this one wish, that each person write a little memory of her. You didn't want the Mayor here or , have anyone recognize or do anything for you; you are a doer but want no recognition; all through your career you did not want to be in the limelight;just be in the background. Everyone here contributed to the memory book and is our way of saying thank you!" Mary Burns-Haley took time to give a history to the birth of the Renton Senior Center starting at the Sweet Shop at Liberty Park (knovvn now as the Liberty Park Community Building); to the Sartori School and now at its' permanent location at 211 Burnett Ave N. Vice-President Mary B.
