Subject: Index: PUBLIC WORKS/FIRE FIRE HYDRANT USE PERMITS N umber: 400-08 Effective Date: Supersedes: Page Of Prepared by: Approved by: Sept. 1985 1 2 Jim Matthew i,s',l L DCYBobBergstrom 1 .0 PURPOSE: To establish a policy/procedure for fire hydrant use. 2.0 ORGANIZATIONS AFFECTED: Public Works Department Fire Department King County Fire Districts King County Water Districts 3.0 REFERENCES: 6-i--69a, T; RMC 3-7 r;+,^u,;, rw..+„ n C 4-5-070 Uniform Fire Code 4.0 POLICY: Authori zati on of use of fi re hydrants or other val ves i ntended for use by the Fire Department may be granted by the Fire Chief, and a permit shall be obtained from the Public Works Department. 5.0 DEFINITIONS: Not applicable. 6.0 PROCEDURE: 6.1 Persons desiring use of fire hydrants or other valves shall make application to the Public Works Department or Water District. 400-08 FIRE HYDRANT USE PERMITS PAGE 2 6.2 Ail appiications far fire hydrant use sha31 be forwarded to the Fire Departrnent or Fire District for review and autharizatian. 6.3 Applicant sha]1 provide information relative ta the specific hydrant far which the use is requested and the proposed period of time that the hydrant is expected to be used. 6. Permits shaii be granted by the Pubiic Warks Department andlor Water District upan confirmatian by the Fire Department. 6.5 All use ar testing of fire hydrants far other than emergency aperations conducted by the Fire Department shal] be coordinated with the Department of Public Works. 6.6 All fire hydrant water use sha11 be metered and charged in accordance with current ordinances and utility rates. City hydrant meters sha11 be praminently marked.
