Carlson l 1.0 PURPOSE To promote a healthy work culture and lifestyle for the benefit of employees working for the City of Renton and their families. The goal is to promote an improved quality of life, reduce occurrences of illness and injury, and have a positive impact to the medical plan. 2.0 ORGANIZATIONS AFFECTED All departments and divisions. 3.0 REFERENCES Not applicable. 4.0 POLICY It is the policy of the City of Renton to encourage employees and their families to take responsibility for healthy lifestyles, and illness and injury prevention,by providing employees with information, education and wellness opportunities. Design, maintenance, and funding recommendations for employee health and wellness will be initiated by the Wellness Committee. 5.0 DEFINITIONS Not applicable 6.0 PROCEDURE 6.1 There will be an Employee Weliness Committee that will be responsible for providing input and assistance to the Human Resources and Risk Management Administrator in the development and implementation of a City-wide wellness and health promotion program. The Human Resources and Risk Management Administrator, or hislher designee, will designate a chair, and the Wellness Committee will elect a recording secretary to preside over monthly meetings or as the Committee deems necessary. 6.2 Each department is encouraged to appoint at least one representative to the Committee. Larger departments such as Public Warks, Community Services, and Community and Economic Development are encouraged to appoint at least two representatives. Management personnel are also encouraged to participate as Committee members. All appointments are to be approved by the Department Administrator. All representatives will serve two-year terms with staggered appointment dates. 6.3 In addition to City employees, each of the Employee Representative organizations and the City of Renton Employees' Health Plan Board of Trustees are encouraged to appoint one member to the Committee. 6.4 At least once every two years, the Wellness Committee will develop and approve a recommended plan, that includes a vision, mission, and specific goals and actions to be taken to promote and improve employee health and wellness, and that is responsive to the needs and interests of the City's workfarce. The purpose of the plan is to suggest ways to focus and direct resources to the areas of greatest impact to improve employee health and wellness.
