Attendance was taken. Minutes of ihe previous meeting vvere r2ad and minutes wer2 approved. � Ben stated while we were in recess during the month of September maintenance worked on many projects. The pool room received acoustic panels to cut down on the noise; pool tables recovered; stools reupholstered; middle pool table has a one inch slit that needs looking into, if something is not done it �vill separate...Sha�vn will look into it right after the meeting. � Emergency phone installed upstairs on the outside wall of game room. Shawn stated the phone connects to the front desk... if an emergency occurs someone can pick up the phone; it will call the front desk stafT; staff will call 911...this speeds up the 911 process and eliminates someone running down to tell staff and t1�en staff having to run upstairs (sign on phone states for EMERGENCY USE ONLY.) Sandra is shown writing down her idea for the design of the new Cedar River Library during an open house at City Hall. � Shawn passed around a list of projects he prepared for maintenance during the two weeks the Center was clos2d. The following are a few completed projects: parking lot restriped with white, yellow & red; awninb installed over the trellis; auditorium floors refinished; six windows replaced; upstairs phone installed. * Renton Community Foundation (Ikuta Donation) is $635,30Z.04. / � Checl< request from Advisory Committee for $325.00; previously approved for the July movie rental; make check payable to City of Renton. e Received $100 from Harriett Roulette in memory of her grandmother, Verniece Lenius; and $350 from the Lenius family. ��- � Shawn read the card from Lenius family: Dear Shawn, This is a donation to the Renton Activity Center in the name of Verniece Lenius. My mother is Sonnie, one of Verniece's eight children; she and I visited the center many times to have lunch with Granny Goose, that is what she was called. All o`us knew of Granny's love of the center and couldn't think of a more � • • ' . 4 deserving mernorial in her narne. We know�h2 center filled many hours ror her, helped her to live to her 102 years. She spol<e fondly of ycu Shawn and many of the other employees and volunteers she considered her volunteering at the job in her later years. She was very devoted to it, it kept her going. UVhen she had to move to assisted living five years ago, we begged 'ner to move to Denver and live amongst the larger part of her farnily. The main reason for turning I us down, she couldn't leave the center. So; you do a good job there. Thank you for the years' . , you kne�v and cared �or our mother ard grandmother. ' Sha�vn mentioned a lot of people are recognized for Citizen of the Year; Verniece did so much, she should have oeen a Volun�eer of the Century, she nut in more time volunteering then any single person I'll ever mee�. She started at Sar�ori three years prior�o us opening the center. � While closed Shawn received a final notice to send a $10.00 fee for the Secretary of State to keep our non-profit status. Shawn handled and sent paper work with fee. � October will be a busy time of year with rour big 2vents: 1) October 10— an Emergency Preparedness meeting; 2) October 18—Citizen of the Year Banquet; 3) October 24—Museum fundraiser; 4) October 25 —School fundraiser. o Holiday Craft Bazaar coming-up on Sa�urday, October 27. We have in our budget a $4,000.00 giit irom Lillian Fornelia to coniinue offering food at the Ba�aar. We will as�the Committee Members for a small amount of money to ofrset the cost of food and a cool<. The proceeds will come back from the sale of the food to the Advisory Board; in past years' we used the money to help ofrset the cost of the Volunteer Party. � Vents in game room �vere checked and working perfectly. flLD BUSINE�S: Ben indica�ed we need to resolve the Sub-Commi��ee Task Definitions that was pos�pcned at the August 20, Z012 meeting due to absence of many members. Shawn s�ated, at our re�reat in June we came up wi�h �hree main objectives for the coming year: 1) fstablisn a n2�a�mAmbers'proce�ure on �n�hat t� �o vvh�n a person comes in to be s� nsw member. Met with officers three weeks ago to talk about this and gave a list of sugges- tions. Here is what we came up with fer the New Member Orientation: First, the new members meet with the stafr'liaison to review facility rules and operation of the Senior Center. (Staff liaison include; Tim, Shawn and Debbie.) Second, meet with executive committee to go over the Senior Advisory rules binder material operation. (Executive Committee include: President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer.) Third, receive a notebook from an out-going member of the Bi-Laws and Committee5. Fourth; be assigned a sub-committee with responsibilities and duties. Fifth, be assigned a mentor or coach from one of the Senior Advisory Board Members for one year by a sub-committee chair. •� : Parl< cleanu for facilit im rovement• 2) Come up vvl�h a proJect. Shawn pass2d out a list o�Sub-Committee Task Responsibilities. A little bacl< ground on sub-committees—at our last retreat in June of 1987 �e felt the Advisory Committee needed to come up with sub-committees to help fine-tune things that cor�e-up an�d have them take resporsibilities for speci�ic things/projects. A list was put together and remcined the same until present. Things changed and some no longer existed. Milt took the initiative; put together a list of his recommendations, which each member received. During the closure in September, Shawn went through the list, fine-tuned what he thought would work for the sub-cornmittees. iVow is the time for discussion, changes or revisions; but we do need to make a recommendation either today or by the next meeting October 15. Now that it is approved, a letter will go to the Mayor making a recommendation of Sub-Committee changes (bi-laws wording not changing, just�he classification headings.) RtCREAi1�N DIRE�TOR—Tim Williams � in the midst of the biennium budget for 2013-2014. The Mayor presents his balanced budget to the City Council on October 15. The Council can change it or make recommen- dations over the following weeks af�er that through deliberations and public hearings. By the first meeting in November think about whom you want as ofr'icers (excluding the secretary) for the year 2013. Ben appointed Bill Clapp and Marjorie Reep to call and verify members whose terms are , expiring and whether they are continuing or retiring. Sandra Polley asked Debbie about a self- defense course for seniors. Bi)1 CJapp would like to see et�nicity of population on the board.
