Recreation centers are important to communities because they provide residents with a better quality of life by providing an enormous variety of educational, social, and recreational activities tailored to the interests of the members of the community. In accordance with furthering its mission, the Authority has committed to providing a Community Building at Cedar Park apartments, located at 408 Monroe Avenue NE in Renton. Since community recreation centers play such a vital role in the healthy development of communities, it is of the utmost importance to ensure that the Community Building at Cedar Park has all the resources necessary for optimum performance. RHA desires a multi-purpose space at Cedar Park where residents can gather, and where the Authority can provide needed programming and services to benefit the health and well-being of the community at large. RHA has envisioned a single-story Community Center with a single, simple footprint, possibly utilizing and expanding some of the existing structure footprint. The design will be limited to 2,000 square feet or less so as not to trigger any NEPA/SEPA issues. The building will encompass a small lobby, large community gathering space, three offices, and restrooms. As part of the facility, enhancement of the surrounding grounds and landscaping would promote outdoor community gathering space.
