Project Title: Renton Elementary and Middle School Crossings

Project Description: Upgrade crosswalk markings, upgrade to ADA accessible curb ramps, install a pedestrian refuge island
and rectangular rapid flashing beacon systems with accessible push buttons, and widen sidewalks as well as install bulbouts.
Detailed Project Description: The following work includes associated ADA, pavement removal and replacement, pavement
marking removal and replacement, landscape restoration, and drainage/utility work as needed.
A. Install a center pedestrian refuge island on Union Ave. NE, south of NE 25th Pl. at the crosswalk to Sierra Heights
Elementary School.
B. Widen the sidewalk, install bulbouts and an ADA accessible curb ramp at the following locations. Also includes removal or
relocation of existing curb, flexible guide posts, signs, and posts.
1. West side of Union Ave. NE, south of NE 25th Pl. at the crosswalk to Sierra Heights Elementary School. Also includes
relocation of existing mailbox.
2. West side of Edmonds Ave. NE. at NE 16th St., at the south crosswalk to McKnight Middle School
C. Remove existing sidewalk and install an ADA accessible curb ramp in the following locations. Also includes removal or
relocation of existing signs and posts.
1.East sidewalk at the crosswalk to Sierra Heights Elementary School on Union Ave. NE, south of NE 25th Pl. Includes
removal and replacement of the wall and railing.
2.East sidewalk at the south crosswalk to McKnight Middle School on Edmonds Ave. NE. at NE 16th St.
D. Install dual-sided rectangular rapid flashing beacons with ADA accessible push buttons at the following locations. Includes
removal or relocation of existing signs and posts.
