Inclement Weather Response Reminder: With more cold weather on the way, the
Public Works Department will be out applying deicer to major arterials. Also, snow is
not far away. It is imperative that motorists do not park or abandon their vehicles
within any portion of the traffic lanes. Abandoned vehicles impair snow and ice
removal, impact response of emergency vehicles and may be towed. Please
remember that during snow and ice events the department sanders and snow plows
are dispatched to keep major arterials drivable. Visit our website at

Help Reduce Waste this Holiday Season: During the holiday season, Americans
produce 25% more waste. The Solid Waste Utility encourages you to exercise a little
bit of creativity and planning to prevent waste and share more meaningful gifts.
o Give experiences, not things. Passes to zoos, theaters, and museums provide
lasting memories.
o Re‐gift and spend less. Books, toys, and mugs in good condition make great
gifts.
o Wrap gifts with comics, magazines, maps, and kids’ art. A colorful reusable
shopping bag makes two gifts in one.
o Provide reusable dinnerware at gatherings. If you must use disposable
dinnerware, choose compostable ones and compost them afterwards.
o For meals, create a grocery list and buy only what you need. For more tools

Lake to Sound Trail construction at the Black River Riparian Forest is well under way,
eventually connecting the Green River Trail in Tukwila at Fort Dent Park to Naches
Avenue SW in Renton. On Thursday, November 21, a 110‐foot span bridge was
placed across the Black River at Monster Road SW. Weighing 37,700 pounds, or 18½
tons, the bridge was fabricated and trucked, in one piece, 1,700 miles from
Minnesota. With a HAWK (high intensity activated crosswalk) signal set for

installation in January 2020, the public will be able to safely cross Monster Road SW
and access the bridge, or vice versa. Trail opening is planned for early March.
A 1.1‐acre wetland mitigation area will be created in the Forest to offset impacts
from the trail construction project. King County is leading this project and will
maintain the trail once it is complete. For more information, see

Information about preventative street maintenance, traffic impact projects, and
road closures happening this week can be found at http://rentonwa.gov/traffic. All
projects are weather permitting and unless otherwise noted, streets will always

on Burnett Avenue North at North 6th Street and approximately 100 feet south
in support of the King County Eastside Sewer Interceptor Rehabilitation project.
Resolution 4378 has been approved by City Council for the roadway closure of
