Dear Hearing Examiner:
On behalf of OneRedmond board of directors, we are writing to provide our comments on the
Renton permit application for PSE's Energize Eastside project.
OneRedmond is a public -private partnership organization focused on economic development
for the entire Eastside of King County. We have been on record in the past expressing our
concerns about the transmission capacity deficiency we face on the Eastside and in support of
the Energize Eastside project as the solution to that problem. We believe that there is no
more important infrastructure project to the health of the Eastside economy than Energize
Eastside. OneRedmond has been a part of the public outreach and engagement process for
the project since its inception. We know that our Eastside companies must have reliable
power in order to operate. That said, without the Energize Eastside project, we face the
prospect of rolling blackouts, which to us is completely unacceptable.
Our region has seen enormous growth and we know more growth is on the way. And, we
know that businesses make decisions on where to locate based on many variables, one of
which is reliable power and updated infrastructure that will support the economy now and
going forward. Serving as an economic development organization, we know that in this
globally competitive environment, we will not be able to attract new businesses to our region
without the assurance of reliable power and upgraded infrastructure.
Lastly, we reiterate our support of building Energize Eastside using the existing utility corridor
as way to minimize impacts and to expedite the project's construction and completion.
The significance of Energize Eastside to the health of our Eastside economy cannot be
understated. We urge you to recommend approval of the permit for Energize Eastside.
