RENTON MUNICIPAL ARTS COMMISSION MINUTES
Tuesday, August 4, 2020 (via Zoom)

Amelia Ossorio, prospective Youth Arts Commission
Call to Order: Meeting was called to order by RMAC Chair, Mary Clymer at 6:02 pm.
Introduction of Guests:
Amelia Ossorio is a local high school student interested in pursuing the position of youth Commissioner with the
Arts Commission. Amelia is 16 years old and has been involved in Renton arts for as long as she can remember.
At the age of 8, Amelia volunteered to sell handmade buttons at Happy Delusions in Downtown Renton and is a
firm believer that art has the power to change, uplift and inspire a community.
Approval of Minutes: A motion was made to approve the minutes from the July 2020 meeting. MSC (Neil/Bill)
Grants Committee Update:
The Grants Committee made the recommendation to the Commission to approve funding for the
following applicants:
Hydrant Art – $9,600 to add an additional 32 hydrants to current inventory in South Renton
neighborhood’s hydrant art program
o 14 hydrants along S. 3rd St
o 18 hydrants along S. 2nd St and between S. 2nd & S. 3rd
Renton Civic Theatre Lighting Replacement - $15,000 in matching funds to support the theatre’s
application for a Building for the Arts grant to update the building’s lighting system.
o Stipulations: Dispersal contingent on securing required matching funds to qualify for The
Building for the Arts grant.
Sunset Mural – $12,846.49 for the design and installation of a community mural in the Sunset
neighborhood.
o Stipulations: Property owner will clean and prepare the wall for the mural
Black Lives Matter Mural – The Owl Project has applied for support for a project to celebrate
Black Lives Matter. The project was posed as a street mural. The city’s Public Works department
has indicated a street may not be feasible for the project and the requested budget for the
project was not clear or confirmed. The Grants Committee is recommending a letter of support
for the project and pending financial support once the project details are more clear.
Creative Kids Contest – $2,975 to support a visual arts & creative writing contest for youth 12 to
18.
A motion was made and approved to grant funds and support for the five applicants as recommended by
the Grants Committee. MSC (Christie/Kaie)
