Flooding Update – Impacts at Carco Theater, Cedar River Trail, Golf Course and Senior Activity Center. Parks maintenance and facilities staff worked 24/7 from Thursday February 6 to Sunday February 9 securing Carco with sandbags and monitoring the rising water and the sump pumps pulling water from the basement. Another sump pump and a backflow system will be placed there to help the current situation. The river breached the golf course closing 4 holes for a limited time. There was sloughing of the tall east embankment/hill behind the course the spawning channel to overflow. Along the Cedar River Trail between the dog park and the trestle bridge a portion of the riverbank has been weakened and sloughed off impacting the Cedar River soft trail. This section of the trail has been closed until it can be evaluated and impact studies are performed. The previous buildup of woody debris near Ron Regis Park has been pushed down river. The Cedar River’s lower river walk is closed from Bronson Way North to Logan Ave as usual, for this time of year, but it’s also experiencing excessively high levels of water, with water reaching up to the grassy area behind the Senior Center, requiring an additional sump pump at the center. There is also considerable buildup of silt and woody debris at the end of the Cedar River at the mouth of Lake Washington. No reports of injuries in Renton due to the rising river. b. Angelina Benedetti was selected by council to fill the 7th and open councilmember position. She has extensive involvement in various capacity participating on advisory committees and boards. c.
